    Curious beer clone

@hughjamton Do you have access to a bottle? They have the ingredients on the side normally as well as the hop choices. If you don't, I might have one kicking about somewhere. Also, where did you hear that Curious is being closed down?

    So who's growing chillies 2021?

@foxy I'm relieved it's not just me. I was concerned I'd bred some kind of super strain!

    So who's growing chillies 2021?

@barleytown The problem is the greenfly congregate on new growth - so all of the growing tips and budding flowers get plastered. In practice this means the plants die back and the flowers don't get a chance to establish themselves. I would love to leave them alone and let nature take its...

    So who's growing chillies 2021?

I have a large greenhouse in the garden which was there when we moved to our current house 6 years ago. I've grown chillies, tomatoes and cucumbers and some other bits and pieces. First couple of years were great and got some great crops, but it's been diminishing returns each year to the point...

Sparkling Water in a corny keg

Just be careful using a keg that's had beer in it. I did the same and the water definitely picked up a taint from the previous contents (and this was after a thorough clean). If I did it again I would probably use a PET bottle or, if I was feeling flush, a new keg that I only used for water.

    Verdant Putty

@Kye Good timing as I've just been drinking the neipa. I'm really pleased with it and I'll try and give you a proper write up over the weekend.

    Greg Hughes recipes

@GeorgieV They're both the same book. The first link is for an older edition, so get the second one with the yellow cover.

    Geterbrewed?

Isn't CML free shipping? I can't recall if there's a minimum spend to get that. EDIT - sorry just understood your point - you're saying CML is more expensive as they integrate the postage cost into the price

    Geterbrewed?

GEB and CML for hops all the way now for me, unless I'm after some whole cone

    Geterbrewed?

@LeeH If you go to -> Hops -> Whole Sale Hops (or just Hops) you can make purchases and select the weight

    What OG to achieve ABV

Carapils and crystal have a similar potential to pale malt (or at least they do according to Brewfather) so I would use the total weight to arrive at the ABV

    Fermentation chamber/fridge help

Many people go for tube heaters. Here are my words of advice based on my own experience. (1) Check the wattage of the heater. I didn't and the first tube heater I bought was only 23w. This could only heat my fridge (admittedly a larger larder fridge) up to around 25/26C which isn't high enough...

    Hopeless Newbie

I think it's mainly the cleaning and also they are meant to compromise hop utilisation in the boil, as contrasted with just throwing them in. Ive never used a hop spider so I can't comment. Aldi produce bags all the way here

    Verdant IPA yeast

@Wiener Blut It's interesting you should raise this as I have had a near identical experience with recycling London Ale III, which the Verdant yeast is meant to be a close relative of. My first brew with the first generation of LAIII was a NEIPA that fermented perfectly well. I reused the yeast...

    Verdant IPA yeast

I'm fermenting my first brew with this yeast - an oat cream NEIPA. As seems to be the universal experience, the krausen was as thick as a snow drift, but as I'd used the snubnose there was no risk of overspill due to the amount of headspace available. The fermentation raged for the first 36...

    Brewzilla 35l maximum abv potential

You can brew it to whatever strength you like in the Brewzilla so long as you reduce the batch size accordingly

    Bottle labels

A long soak in very hot water with sodium perc has always worked for me and the labels either just drop off in the water or you can scrape them off with your thumb

    Verdant Putty

I think it's definitely possible. I've got a NEIPA fermenting now which will have a 450g total hop load (c 22.5g/l and a 15g/l dry hop). Won't be the same as Putty as it's an oat cream neipa that used lactose so it will have more of a creamy finish and more residual sweetness (hopefully) but I'm...

    Basic brewing software

Another vote for Brewfather. I'm not aware of any software that holds itself out as for beginners, but I find Brewfather pretty easy to use and can be as simple or complicated as you want it to be. One massive advantage Brewfather has over Brewer's Friend is that it has a really good mobile app.
