    Recirculate during mash?

I didn't know there was a separate overflow filter for the Grainfather. I might give it a spin with the Brewzilla

    Recirculate during mash?

Here's the video if anyone hasn't seen it - the relevant part is at 1.10

    Recirculate during mash?

Yes, I think he does, although his point is that these single vessel systems with overflow pipes are designed to overflow during the mash and so the recirculation should be left at full flow. Since none of these systems come with a filter for the overflow pipe, I'm sceptical that's right. I've...

    Recirculate during mash?

Sorry to hijack this thread slightly (although related) but there was a recent David Heath video (part of his 'Brewing Bad' series) which suggested that you should leave the recirculation full bore and just let it flow down the centre pipe if that's what it wants to do. His argument is that this...

    Lallemand Philly Sour yeast

Does anyone have experience of reusing this yeast? My practice is to overbuild a starter and reserve part, which is then used to make a new starter for another batch. Has anyone done that successfully with this yeast? Alternatively, can it be harvested post-fermentation?

    White Labs Yeast

If you're getting free brewery yeast them I agree it makes no sense to switch to a Wyeast alternative, especially if you can source a top cropping yeast from the same brewery.

    White Labs Yeast

Im assuming you actually meant 35 gallons (c. 160 litres) rather than 35L If so, and assuming a 1.040 SG, brewfather is suggesting 14 packs, or an 8L starter on a stir plate. You're suggesting nano brewery volumes and it's outside of my experience at homebrew level. I'm not sure what the...

    Online Belgian beers shops

It's not quite as attractive as it used to be. Post-brexit, the duty free limit on beer has more than halved from 110 litres to 42 litres.

    White Labs Yeast

@Coffin Dodger If your aim is to get a reliable, quality British ale yeast for top cropping then I would definitely go for the Wyeast 1469 West Yorkshire as it's easy to acquire, less temperamental that WLP072, it produces a thick head and also comes up trumps on taste. Another unsung hero of...

    Lalbrew London..again

I brewed a best bitter yesterday copying the 5 points best malt base but using bramling cross as the hops instead

Get an auto siphon they said. It'll be easy they said.

@Nottsbeer I have to say that I have never bothered to sanitise the tap before transfer (I admit because I have never thought to!) and had no problems at all. Having said that, I have always been fastidious with cleaning and sanitising the tap pre-fermentation.

    Banks's Mild Recipe

Can I ask why you went to Wolverhampton for a weekend away? (even as a proud Wulfrunian it wouldn't be top of my list of places to go for a weekend). Your mention of the Clarendon brought back memories. It was the first pub I ever had a drink in, before walking over to Molineux to watch Wolves...

    Verdant IPA yeast

@Benfleet Brewery Did you ramp the temp up to 22C towards the end of fermentation? I found that the temp increase causes the yeast to drop after a couple of days

    St Stefanus Blonde

A had a bottle of this for the first time at the weekend. It is an exceptional beer and there were a couple of questions I have about how it is made. The head was superb and possibly the most appetising beer foam I have ever come across. It was light but kept its form to the very end. It had...

    Lalbrew London..again

Yes, that's a liquid yeast. You could use the Verdant yeast if you wanted something similar in dry form

    Fermzilla

It's a smaller version of the fermentasaurus snubnose. The current snubnose is 35L and I think the Apollo is 30L or maybe even less, so easier to fit in a ferm fridge. The problem is that Keg King stuff seems to take an age to appear in the UK. Brew2Bottle seems to be the main (only?) UK...

    Ok cleaner?

If anyone can find pure Sodium Percarbonate that's as cheap as the 2kg tub of Astonish Oxy Active then I would be very interested as I've never been able to find anything that comes even close.

    Leeds or Norwich.

PS - Vocation is based near Halifax and Hebden Bridge and is as close to Manchester as it is to Leeds

    Leeds or Norwich.

TBH, if you wanted a beer tour but wanted to limit yourself to a single city, I would go to Manchester. If you were keen to check out Northern Monk and Vocation, they both have outlets serving their full range in Manchester (see the Northern Monk Refectory in Manc as well as the Vocation bar in...

Emulating cask ale - what's the average shelf life?

I agree that's the theory but it doesn't seem to be that way in practice. For example, RLBS suggest their cask breather will only preserve the beer for up to 20 days, yet the beer shouldn't see any air at all if it's used properly. I was keen to see what everyone's experience was of keeping...
