Sodastream refill using dry ice - anyone tried this ?

Normally liquid nitrogen. could make some bottle bombs with the dry ice. On second thoughts maybe not such a good idea….

    Keg/fermenter washer recommendation

I've got the Fermenter King washer and I'd recommend it. It just makes cleaning easier and less messy. When I used to wash out my kegs and fermenter I'd always end up soaking the kitchen floor and making a general mess. It's convenience, at a cost, but I like gadgets and this is one of the...

    Grainfather G-40 info

Home brewing is a relatively cheap hobby. If I compare what I’ve spent on Home brewing equipment with my outlay on my other hobbies (golf and cycling), it’s negligible. I’ve probably spent about £1k on home brew equipment over a couple of years, I have: 70L kettle with gas burner (second...

    Lalbrew London..again

Just as an update it cleared up nicely. This is now 30 days since I kegged. It’s very drinkable, and certainly has the flavour profile of Fuggles as you’d expect.

    Malty Sweetness

I would say definitely from the malts. I wouldn’t describe it as a bready aroma, it’s sweet malty aroma and flavour. Low hop bitterness and minimal hop aroma. I bought some pilsner Urquell recently and I was underwhelmed, it was pretty tasteless.

    Malty Sweetness

I got this The Mega 24 Mixed Brewery Lager Box – Bier Company For £25 on a deal. As with most mixed cases there are some ‘fillers’ that are crap. But some of the beers have been good. I like the ones from Black Isle Brewery, and the continental cans are good. Siren Craft is on my doorstep and...

    Malty Sweetness

I like to brew and drink lagers. My usual grain bill is simply lager malt and carapils for head retention. I’ve recently being sampling a fair number of craft brewed lagers and many have a notable malty sweetness and aroma which is absent from my bees. I’d like to try and introduce this to my...

    yeast starter confusion

This is exactly what I’ve been doing. I brew 42L batches and when I’ve looked at yeast calculators it’s suggested multi stage starters to get to the required cell count. CML Hell is cheap and 3 packs work for me at 20C (under pressure). That’s just over £5 on yeast. Cheaper than 1 pack of liquid...

    Pressure fermentation

I've been pressure fermenting lager for the last 3-4 brews. Effectively it allows you to brew at a higher temperature using lager yeast without the off flavours being generated. You can use less yeast due to the higher temperature, and fermentation finished much quicker (my latest batch finished...

    When is it really finished?

My latest batch of lager appears to have finished fermenting at day 4 (pressurised fermentation at 20C). This is my first batch using an ispindel to measure the fermentation and the reported gravity has been constant (at target FG) for 24 hours. My normal practice is to leave it for 10 days then...

    Lalbrew London..again

I’ve got my kegs stored at 5C so hopefully in a couple of weeks it will clear up nicely.

    Lalbrew London..again

Just kegged my 5 Points effort. Not quite sure what happened with this one. It started really quickly, then looked to have finished after 4 days, but it had stalled at 1.020. So I gave it a gentle swirl and upped the temperature to 22C after which it came back to life. In the end I left it in...

That's my adapted recipe with my water profile and the Lallemand yeast. I will also cold crash and add gelatin (sorry vegies!). The original recipe with WLP 013 can be found in the Brewfather library.

    Lalbrew London..again

I brewed a Five Points clone yesterday and pitched Lallemand London. It’s bubbling away nicely, and before anyone asks it not under pressure I have a blow off tube attached.
