    Climate change.

My last ride was early October ! Normally go out twice a week but every time I planned to go out it started raining. Wondering when I get out next. Still windy and grey clouds in the sky ....

    Wine bottles

Hi and welcome, Best to google homebrew suppliers, Brew2bottle comes to mind, for small quantities. Or "wine bottle suppliers"...

    Climate change.

Spare a thought for the people in the flooded areas of Northern Germany, not much reporting of that here. Warmer air holds more moisture = more rain. It's generally flat and many inland rivers' flood defences are soaked close to destruction. Down here in Bucks I'm sure we had rain on and off...

    Car Parking

Trouble is when it goes on strike you might be without car for a while. There's just too much technology involved, too many variables, probably needs 24 hr service on stand-by. It's ok for BMW or Mercedes new car towers, they make loads of money unlike a local council ....

    Pint of prosecco anyone?

Somewhere I saw a headline this afternoon: Mr Johnson is berating Mr Sunak to get on with the building of nuclear power stations to solve our energy crisis! Oh man, it was supposed to be 1 nuclear plant coming on-stream every year, has the first one been started yet? Any connections with...

    Pint of prosecco anyone?

Another Brexit bonus ... sock it to them in Brussels... the election is in the bag. Remember the middle ages when every county, dukedom had their own weights & measures? One of my first jobs in the UK was with a civil engineering company which involved billing clients for work in progress - one...

    PG Tips drinkers.

Got probably about 100 of the old PG Tips pyramid bags left, always thought it was a very good tea as far as bags go .... oh well we'll probably switch to Yorkshire, know it well. I guess the original blend was too expensive.

Have a go at simple AG

Just a gut feel, as regular beer drinkers we know when a 5% or 6% ale hits the palate. A mackeson stout is 3% and I don't get the alcohol mouth feel. Definitely with this brew there's a reasonable alcohol content, first I thought maybe 4% but settled on 3.5%, maybe wishful thinking. Next time I...

Have a go at simple AG

Just been through another half litre of this brew and I must say I'm impressed! Definitely brown ale type, nutty/chocolaty aroma, faint hint of fruitiness. Alcohol wise I guess at least 3.5%, agree this is low so more of a session ale? On finishing the bottle I said to myself, why not do another...

Have a go at simple AG

Dohhhh .... I should know this ... must get some base malt. Didn't take readings ... should really take this more serious. I'll try another bottle tonight.

Have a go at simple AG

Meant to give an update on this ... the bottles have been understairs for a few weeks now conditioning. Tried a small taster bottle and a 1/2 litre in the interim. Reasonably carbonated (considering the understairs was down to 15c for at least a couple of weeks), good strength (from taste)...

    5G

Haven't got a 5G capable phone, but down at the street corner a dirty great brown(!) mast with 4 green cabinets. I was though surprised there wasn't a campaign against it (remember that woman saying to a BT engineer: if you flick that switch you kill people - maybe she's got 5G now ....).

Anyone using the red VINTERFINT IKEA bottles for beer?

Can't comment on this or similar bottles, except they feel a bit on the light side as the glass is thinner. Personally I only use swing tops which had beer in or sold as suitable for beer, plus the odd champagne bottle.

This will seem a strange topic but I think it's relevant here

Mine goes into the compost bin - haven't seen rats in there but it seems all creation converges on it, slugs, worms, woodlice, fungus. I think what helps avoid smell (never noticed) is you mix it up with the existing material, speeds up the process.

    Morning from Somerset

Hi and welcome, when you say "basic kit" you mean the cheapest budget brand kits? Maybe spend a bit more and try some premium kits - you can tell the difference. Also tell us what you have actually made and maybe fellow brewers can suggest based on that. Have fun!

    Good smell.

Sniffing is very much under-rated these days.

Started first brew today..... made a ****oo

Priming Sugar is just sugar nothing special, 1/2 tsp of granulated per bottle will work ok.

    Back brewing after 15 years

We do brew relatively small quantities so the visible activity doesn't last long but under the surface plenty going on. We can't expect the amount of foaming you might get in a brewery with hundreds of litres on the go in one FV.
