    Manngold's brewdays

2nd day locked away. I am a teacher and whilst I thought I would have alot to do, I don't really at the moment. So, brew day number three for the year. Twisted Stout by Rob over at the malt miller. 5.2kg of grain. Five sit types of grain. 100g of bramling cross. I have never used this, will...

    Free ingredients

Hi. I am in Orpington, which sounds fairly close. I was going to place an order, but happy to take some of the stuff you have and sling you some dosh in exchange? Let me know if you are happy with that?

    Tube heater

I have had my fermentation fridge up and running for a while (two plus years) and it has been fine. I use an inkbird 308 to control the temp and have a tube heater inside it. Three weeks ago my tube heater stopped working. My assumption was that after two years of use it had packed up. So I...

    Manngold's brewdays

Update. Kegged yesterday. FG was 1011. Which means about 5.2%. Stronger than I would have ideally liked but still tastes ok.

Did someone say our 'Giveaways' are back?

Can I be in as well please!

    Beginner Kit

Your budget will get you started with kit brewing rather than all grain, in my opinion. You can buy starter packages from most places, but Essentially you will need: A fermenter (food grade bucket) A hydrometer to measure the alcohol content A sanitiser A paddle to allow you to mix it A kit...

    Steeping hops for too long?

Thanks. It was 100g of hops for the duration. I think it was about 50g for the steep. Should have made a record. Thanks though, glad I didn't make too bitter. You know when you think of something after you have done it, well that is this. Thanks

    Steeping hops for too long?

Hi, I had a brew day last week, and whilst it all went well I couldn't chill the beer with my counter flow chiller so had to leave the hops in to steep. In all in, they probably had about 45 minutes in the wort longer than they should between 98 and 80c, will this make my beer far too bitter...

How am I (accidentally) making low alcohol beer?

Hi Andrew did you take a reading on your hydrometer at the start? If not, you are basically wanting a final reading of about 1012 - 1008. Somewhere in between there.

    Manngold's brewdays

Had a bit of a nightmare with this. My tube heater broke, I would assume before I put the fermenter in the fridge. Didn't realise until three days in. I have changed the tube heater today, so hopefully it will be ok.

    Can opener

Get one by Barbantia. They are solid and sturdy. Think I paid about £20 for one 6 years ago and it has not broken since.

    Corny keg - lost pressure

Hi all. So after last week's drama, I set my reg to 23 psi and left it attached. I have had a pint almost every other night from a flow control tap that sits directly on the keg. This evening I can only get foam. I have turned down the psi to 10 each time I tried to pour, and released pressure...

    Manngold's brewdays

Hi all. Determined to get a brew in today and I managed it. 22l of Dennis Kings award winning Galaxy Delight. I have brewed this particular beer about 4 or 5 times, for me and others, and think it is a great brew. The recipe can be found on the Malt Miller. Did things a bit differently today...

Size of Cornelius Keg for 11.5L batch

10 - 12 L corny kegs are really expensive. In comparison to the 19 ones. You could always look at 5l growlers / 5l stainless steel mini kegs. I have a couple of these and they are good.

Problems with mini kegs (growler style)

Hi Dexter. I had a similar issue. Basically as Dutto suggests the easiest bit is to shave off a bit of the collar of either disconnect. If it is anything like mine, Duttos second idea won't work as it is built into the mechanism of the cap itself.

    Corny keg - lost pressure

Thanks Parpot. I put new seals on everything as I hadnt used it in a while. The only other thing I can think of is that one of the poppets for the gas in mechanism is not flush, as I took it apart to clean. Could this be an issue, it hasn't happened before when I have taken apart. Thanks

    Grainfather user from Bromley

Thanks all for the welcome. My addiction to it started because I was exploiting loop holes, but it was the on line slots that were my downnfall. I vaguely remember the Brockley shop. However when I checked prices it didn't seem that cost effective with driving and parking etc. Would you say it...

    Corny keg - lost pressure

Thanks Parpot. I have had the gas on overnight. Would you recommend I disconnect and see if it loses pressure again? I don't really want to waste a bottle of co2. Thanks

Thanks. How cold is cold, I can get it down to a stable 2c. Thank you for your help.
