    Carbonation drops question

I use 1 drop per 500 ml bottle and find that is perfect for me although I prefer slightly less carbonation than too many bubbles. I tried to cut the tablets but its nearly impossible to do it accurately, they won't crumble as they are rock hard. I'm happy using ordinary sugar as well, 1 level...

    Bottling via a second bucket

I think the problem occurs when you syphon from one bucket to the other, no matter how careful you are to avoid splashing just the fact that the liquid is exposed to the air seems enough to 'turn' certain styles of hoppy beer

    Bottling via a second bucket

BradleyW.............Don't know how that would work, you'd suck out the air, then what, how would you get the cap on without the air rushing back in ?

    Bottling via a second bucket

I think it's near on impossible really but only really matters if you're trying a NEIPA style beer. Just keep your syphon tube under the beer as the bucket fills up and don't splash when bottling, don't leave too much room in the bottle when you cap and never shake the bottle.

    Bottling via a second bucket

I use to syphon from the fermenting bucket to a secondary bucket, very carefully, as little added air as possible, then bottle from that after putting 1 carbonation tablet into each bottle first, always worked perfectly. I then did the same but with a level teaspoon of sugar in each bottle...

    Internet security issues

Not sure if you 'need' to, although not supported any more if you have a good firewall and anti virus and make sure any site you visit has the padlock symbol on the search bar you'll be ok, it's probably a Windows scare to make everyone buy their stuff.......

    Historic recipes and their re-manufacture

Gum arabic brings back memories...............many years ago I use to be a printer, it was used in the printing process, spread over the printing plates and then dried with a rag so the plate wouldn't oxidise. Amazing to think it was ever used in homebrew.

    School Boy Error

I did try to reuse my caps, not because i'm tight, honest, but I was trying to do my bit for the environment and reduce the stuff I throw away, however although I was careful when opening a bottle I did have a few reused ones that affected the carbonation of my new beers, a few bottles were...

    HELP - First brew

Agree, FAR too much crystal as that adds sweet caramel or toffee taste, not good for a juicy IPA. I'd not use any and put in some flaked/rolled oats instead, maybe 500g.

    Neipa bottle day

After bottling you need to keep them at about 20c for a couple of weeks so they'll carbonate, then you can put them somewhere cooler. You'll find that cooling them will help them clear but the whole idea of NEIPAs are to have a thick hazy hop bomb, as i'm sure you know. If you put them outside...

    Neipa bottle day

Fluctuating temperature would affect the flavour but won't make a beer 'gloopy', as I said it's the addition of oats and wheat that will do that. As for temperature using US-05, a steady 18c is the ideal temperature.

    Neipa bottle day

It'll be 'thick' and hazy because of the oats and wheat, that recipe is for a NEIPA, what yeast did you use, it suggests WLP066 London Fog which also adds to the NEIPA style. As for oxidisation, be very careful not to add any oxygen while bottling, don't shake the bottles and try to fill them...

    Dry hopping.

Thanks, that's interesting. I remember reading fairly recently that dry hopping over 8g / lt didn't bring anything else to the flavour and anything above 4g / lt for citrusy hops also wasn't worth it. Shows we're all different I suppose and always worth experimenting.

    Dry hopping.

So are these figures just for when you dry hop, ie a 10 lt batch would be dry hopped 40g, 80g or 160g or are they the total amount of hops inc any added into the boil or after the boil ??
