    Converting 72 pint ale cask

Final update: I was out when they came to collect the keg. My partner called me while I was at work and asked why there were 40 bottles of beer in our back garden! 😂 Very kind of them. I suppose the beers *technically* belong to my mate who first bought the cask from the brewery, though.....

    Headaches, shakes - hangover?

Interesting article! The thing is, I don't drink during the week, generally and I don't get these headaches when I don't drink. I've just force carbonated about 10L of tap water from the garden tap I use for brewing. Going to drink a few pints of that today to see if it gives me a headache as...

    Headaches, shakes - hangover?

Hi, I am getting terrible, splitting headaches from my brews. I had put it down to over consumption, but now I'm not so sure! Yesterday, I drank a pint of 2.7% and three pints of 4.4% homebrew. I also had a double scotch (not homebrewed!). This was all consumed over about 5 hours. I feel like...

    Converting 72 pint ale cask

They were very appreciative - makes you realise how kegs going walkabout is a serious headache for them. I honestly (naively) assumed they would have simply ordered a brand new one with the deposit my friend paid. On reflection, not the best assumption to make, but when I have had apples pressed...

    Converting 72 pint ale cask

I spoke with the brewery yesterday and they were very nice and said they would like the keg back, so someone's coming to collect it tomorrow. The deposit is forfeit because the keg is meant to be returned within a certain time frame, but hey ho, it wasn't my deposit! They also said they'd bring...

    Converting 72 pint ale cask

This has got me thinking about "refurbished" Cornelius kegs - are we supposed to make sure those haven't been pinched? My understanding is that most of them are former soft drink syrup vessels, but it never occurred to me that they may have been nicked and sold on illegally.

    Converting 72 pint ale cask

I tried calling the brewery yesterday but they're not open until tomorrow morning.

    Converting 72 pint ale cask

Oh, really? I had no idea. I had assumed the deposit covers the cost of the keg. I'll find out the brewery and give them a call.

    Converting 72 pint ale cask

Hi folks, I acquired a 72 pint ale cask from a friend's wedding. They said they didn't think the brewery would return their deposit because they'd let it sit for a couple of years and so they gave it to me. I'm not quite sure what to do with it, though. On first inspection, it doesn't appear...

    Counter pressure filler plumbing

I think I've arrived at a potential solution. If anyone would like to offer any feedback, it would be massively appreciated. I must admit, I'm still wondering whether I'm overengineering this as I imagine it's an issue most people with counter-pressure fillers would encounter and it's hard to...

    Counter pressure filler plumbing

I see. Mine only has the barb fittings, so there isn't a way to quickly disconnect it once it's hooked up. Seems like there should be a very simple solution to this... Is there a way of putting those disconnects inline so I could put one at the regulator and swap out different gas lines for...

hop spider/ vs non and pump issue

I throw pellets in the kettle and don't use the pump after mashing. I drain from the tap via gravity and have never had a problem with that. I'm using an immersion chiller, so most of the trub drops below the outlet which means it can drain pretty freely. I scale up so I'm left with about 25...

    Counter pressure filler plumbing

Stupid question, but in case of what?

    Counter pressure filler plumbing

This is a great idea. How did you attach the ball lock fittings to the bottle filler? Mine has barb fittings, so I'm thinking the easiest way would be to attach a very short piece of line with jubilee clips to each, then stick a ball lock disconnect on the other end. But how..? I can't seem to...

    Counter pressure filler plumbing

Evening, I recently purchased a counter pressure filler and am wondering about the best way to hook it up. It has 6mm barb fittings. I could stick on tubing with jubilee clips, but it could be a pain to get the tubing off after each use. Additionally, it seems to require a connection to the gas...

    Rust in kettle

Hi all, I have a stainless steel kettle and had always cleaned after brewday using ChemClean. However, I recently bought a new SS fermenter and heard about passivating. I ordered some Bar Keeper's Friend. The stuff is amazing at cleaning, so I used it to clean the inside of my kettle as well...

Zero airlock activity but SG going down

I just bought a very cheap "conical" (not much of a cone to it, tbh) fermenter and have been having this same issue. I've been brewing for over 10 years, but finallly got sick of carboys and decided to switch to SS. However, I just cannot get the lid to seal! The thing is admittedly poorly made...

    Ruined Batch?

Just a heads up, since you mentioned the airlock wasn't removed - opening the tap will cause negative pressure in the fermenter, and suck the liquid out of the airlock into the fermenter (if it doesn't, you probably dont have a seal round the lid). I use Starsan in the airlock and always forget...
