    Gozdawa Expert Baltic Porter opinions?

Anyone got any comments on the above kit? I'm looking for a winter warmer/porter style to get under way in the next week or so, to be ready at the begining of the new year and I can't find any reviews here. It's going to be bottled by the way.

    Undercarbonated St Peter's Honey Porter

Thanks @GhostShip for the link. I think I'll be working my way through the reviews! Lots to look at. Interesting, when I was looking around for a kit to complete for the Winter I didn't do as much research as maybe I should have. I did see the AMP but when I decided to order something I...

    Undercarbonated St Peter's Honey Porter

I don't think I'll be making it again, I'll look around for reviews on winter warmer/porter kits for the new year (that's for the depths of winter rather than the party!). It was a good refresher on beer making on the whole though!

    Undercarbonated St Peter's Honey Porter

So I've left this for another couple of weeks and the situation has definitely improved! Could it be that I let it too long before bottling and there wasn't much yeast in each bottle so it took a bit longer? The bottles are now firm to the squeeze and a good "ppssssttt" when opened, taste is...

Is this wine better for the drainpipe?

When you say alcohol content of 5%, did you take the SG? Did you measure it after stirring by any chance? What is it now?

    Undercarbonated St Peter's Honey Porter

@trummy First time I've used carbonation drops, but as I said my first beer for a LONG time.... Also always used glass bottles, but as I didn't have enough glass I bought some PETs and carbonation drops were not around in the dim and distant past. Bottles were new and I sanitised and...

Just to clarify, when I said not tight, I meant, when squeezed there was still give in the bottles, the caps are all definitley on tight!

    Undercarbonated St Peter's Honey Porter

I'm now trying to find way to use "ullage" in conversation.... Back to my problem... I've made sure as best I can that the tops are on firmly, I held each bottle in a towel (dry hands) to grip the base and top firmly, firm twist until "scrunch" and a then a bit more until cap stopped. All of...

    Undercarbonated St Peter's Honey Porter

In summary, my first beer kit for 30(ish) years, was hoping to have a "Winter Warmer" for Xmas. So everything went according to instructions, fermentation took 6 days at 20C, FG was around 1010 and stable. Bottled straight into 500ml PET bottles and 2 carbonation drops added per bottle. Left...

    Red wine temperature (fermentation)

Going on my skill at reading, rather than wine making, Red wine ferment higher than white wine, but the range in all the intructions I've read and tried, stick to 20-24C to keep your yeast happy. Too low and your yeast will slow or even go to sleep. Too high can produce some nasty flavours and...

    Ispindel leaking!!

I only tried the O ring out o curiousity, as I did for the reed switch to turn on and off. Didn't get on with either option to be honest. I ffound the O ring looked like it had seated properly in the lid, but when removed had slipped out and bunched up, maybe on removal but I wasn't prepared to...

    Ispindel leaking!!

You could try putting some PTFE tape on the thread of the tube? I don't do that myself and I'd replace the tape on each use, don't want anything hiding in there! Since using an iSpindel I've only made wine, so I don't ferment under pressure and only 20C (or so). I did try using the oriinal...

    Hydrometer using a load cell

I think negative bouyancy is the way to go, the force is then always downwards and as you say, you can use a wire. I like the idea! I'm now going to do a bit of shopping for parts. I make wine so I'm not what the weight I'd use is going to be yet, time to experiment  I'm thinking I'll...

    iSpindel

Just to clarify, that 4 significant digits AFTER the leading zeros are removed. For example, 0.00000123456789 would be 1.234E-6, or even 0.1234E-5. You can do the same for the big numbers, 123456789 could be 1.234E+8.

    iSpindel

In your calibration string you don't really need anything more than 4 significant digits, at least to test and prove it's the string?

    iSpindel

There was a limit on the length off the polynomial which I think was increased but can't remember which firmware version this happened. I think it was 120(?) characters but was increased to 250(?). You could try and reduce the size of the string by removing the leading zeros, i.e. changing the...
