Luddite asking for Technical advise on Ispindels?

Personally I wouldn't be without one, well actually two. Yes they're a phaff to calibrate, yes they get a covering of dead yeast, yes they accumulate bubbles... Do I rely on mine to tell me the actual SG at any one point, no! However, I do use it to help me know when the fermentation has...

    Tips on syphoning

As @Chippy_Tea said above, rigid tube with sediment trap to go into your bucket or demijohn. To hold that in place in a demijohn use a cork with a hole/slot to let the air in as the liquid goes out. If you're using a bucket use two of the clips mentioned above to hold the rigid tube in the...

    Carrot wine not fully cleared

I'd just leave it to do it's stuff, give the demijohn a twist every now and then, but it looks like it's working!

    Chemstone?

Is this aimed at keg and lines rather than fermentation vessels/buckets and syphone tubes?

Equipment For Sale Beer & Wine Storage

@Dutto Really glad this has gone to a good cause, couldn't bear to think of it going to landfill. You've recruited a new member into the bargain, I saw a new introduction from Sleaford, good work!

Equipment For Sale Beer & Wine Storage

@Dutto Wish I was closer, Bristol to Sleaford is a bit far. We'll be in Cambridge the weekend after Easter but that's still a 90 minute drive. I can't believe there's no interest :?:

    What Wine recipe ?

Yes you make a decent red wine from kits, BUT in my opinion you will need to spend in the order of £50 for 30 bottles. I've tried Beaverdale, On The House, VineCo and WinExpert for reds and whites and they easily match £5 supermarket offerings. Why not try a 6 bottle decent kit and see what...

Picture or Video of the day.

Ah fond memories of going over a particularly "noisey" section of (was it M26) and then having to change the tyre. Apparently there was "one" slab of motorway was well known locally.

I wish I'd seen that route in use. Still wander it when I visit. Trying to imagine just what is in that picture and the train running down to the quay.

    Banana wine

Ah, if only I'd read the whole thread aheadbutt Same receipe I've used, clearing nicely, just need the patience to leave it for half a year! I followed the receipe adding the orange and lemon. When it started it was VERY citrusy and I was bit perturbed but that seems to have diminished. I'll...

Out of interest what receipe do you use for Banana wine?

    what are you growing

I've got to grow everything in containers, pots or bags. On the waiting list for allotment but they're in high demand and I guess that's only going to get worse. However, from some friends locally that have allotments, there are quite a few that have been abandoned. The process to reaquire...

    Banana wine

I started off a 2 gallon batch nearly 3 months ago and it's only just finished fermenting, I followed the Brewbitz receipe. Wonderful aroma seems and to be very alcoholic. Did you leave it alone for 16 months or did you "monitor" it's progress? Seems from feedback that this is a good receipe...

    Home winemaking software

I haven't yet investigated anything that records the results of my labours but I do use Fermentrack to control my process. I have a couple of Thorrak's PCBs (with all the bits) and a couple of iSpindels. My stocks were getting a bit out of hand so I started recording kit/receipe of what I had...

    Gallstones, the enemy of homebrewing

Love the positivity, keep well and continue with the brewing!

Picture or Video of the day.

Early electronic handbrakes were "a problem", we had one fail and the only method to release was cut the cable through a special "port". My understanding is that newer systems have a mechanical release somewhere? Yes, we did have keyless entry and there was a key in the fob to open the doors.

    Newbie treasure or trash?

Ermm, I've still got some of that equipment :?: I still use the glass hydrometer, trial jar, rubber bungs, bottle brush, demi-john brush and most surprisingly the syphon tube ashock1. Although the syphon tube is cleaned with my water bladder cleaning kit regularly. I did have one of those...
