    Can't make a hoppy beer

I have been trying for ages to make a real hoppy pale ale type of thing, last time I thought I would go with one of the brewdog recipes, 5am Saint, since I love the real thing... It's got over 200g of dry hop in it for 7 days in the 20l batch, it's still young, only been in the fridge after...

    Malt confusion -

Mines been in the primary since a week past Friday, plan to chill it this weekend for a couple of days, then move to a secondary, racking the cold beer on to the hops, will then let it warm back to 20degrees for 5 days, chill again to drop the hops and then bottle condition. Hopefully enough...

    Malt confusion -

Well just finished brewing it, pretty much to the recipe, maybe a touch less crystal and a bit more hops (I feel they always get more hop utilisation than we meere home brewers do)..... Will keep you all posted

5am Saint grain bill check please...

OK, I went for it!! Will let everyone know how it turns out. I dropped the medium and dark crystal a teeny bit as I doubt I will get as good extraction of the hop flavours as they do, will also up the additions as well to try and keep up with brewdog!

5am Saint grain bill check please...

It just seemed like a lot of crystal malts and I have heard rumors of people thinking some of the recipes were not 100% accurate. For the 20L batch DIY Dog has the following grain bill... Extra Pale 2.56kg 5.6lb Caramalt 0.88kg 1.9lb Munich 0.63kg 1.4lb Crystal 150 0.38kg 0.83lb Dark Crystal...

5am Saint grain bill check please...

Folks, I am looking to make a clone of 5am saint - I have got the recipe from DIY Dog but have dropped the crystal malts down a bit, just looking for some confirmation that the recipe looks OK? Should I maybe also drop the amount of caramalt as well? HOME BREW RECIPE: Title: 5am Sinner...

    Malt confusion -

I was going to make this tomorrow! But I too was wondering about the amount of crystal malts in it. Is the DIY Dog recipe wrong then?

    Dry hopping and flavour

I'm looking to make a brew dog 5am saint clone as I just love that beer! Got the recipe from diy dog and it's pretty much the same recipe that's also been posted a few years ago before they released the recipes so I assume this should get me close.... I'm wondering about the dry hop though, i...

    What's went wrong?

Just in my second one this evening, these ones seem not to bad, not as light in colour as I would expected but a lot better, guess there must have been a few that maybe never sealed correctly and oxidised in the bottle!

    Dry hop with Nelson

Ok, lets add 40g of Nelson to the dry hop - so 40 each of Citra, Mosaic and Nelson This better turn out better than the last batch - got 18L at 1057, colour was bang on, in the fridge at 20degrees with US05. Dry Hop next weekend

    Dry hop with Nelson

Brewing this today - After me recent disaster with my beer somehow loosing all hoppiness and turning brownish I am trying again... http://www.brewersfriend.com/homebrew/recipe/view/456689/-if-1st-you-don-t-suceed Its a pale ale with Columbus for bittering and a wee touch at 5 mins for...

    What's went wrong?

Well i asked for caramalt today, that's light and not a dark crystal malt. As I say, coming out the boiler and fermenter it's fine, lovely golden colour, only after being in the bottle 2 weeks has the colour darkened

    What's went wrong?

But it was only in the bottle that it changed colour? Out of th boiler and fermenter it looked and tasted fine.... It's an electric boiler I have though with a big kettle element but as I say it seemed fine after the boiler and fermenter. Just went to the brew store and bought 2 new plaster...

    What's went wrong?

Does not drink ok, there is no massive happiness ispts basically non existent and the beer although ok has slightly spicy taste but the main thing is it neither looks nor tastes like a pale ale. This I reckon is at least the third batch with the same issue. Did a punk clone at Christmas and it...

    What's went wrong?

I brewed what was supposed to be a pale ale with pale malt and caramel and a touch of wheat. It all looked ok when brewing and looked from what I can remember pale enough. Bottled a couple of weeks ago and I opened the first tonight - it looks like a Scottish 80 shilling, it's so dark! What's...

    100 grams minimum

I find the opposite, made 2 brews with galaxy, the first was 200g single hop, mostly added late and dry hop. It's very fruity but has a weird aftertaste that's not going away soon! My next one was a mix of different hops and one was galaxy, way less than before but had the same aftertaste for a...
