    Secret Santa Review Thread 2021!

My second SS, a Festive Fireside Ale at 5.4%. A slight hiss when opening and a beautiful colour, it is actually slightly lighter than in the picture. Hints of aniseed on the nose. A good fruity taste, it’s a cracking winter beer. I really enjoyed this one. Thanks Santa

    Secret Santa Review Thread 2021!

A nice Irish Stout at 4.8%. Poured really well with a good head. A really balanced flavour with a treacle/ caramel aftertaste. Mouthfeel was just right for me, some Stouts almost feel like they need chewing, this was not one of them. I’d definitely drink again. Thanks Santa.

Advice on using Grainfather Conical Fermenter & Glycol Chiller

I never even knew this existed, that’s even easier than back-flushing pipework

Advice on using Grainfather Conical Fermenter & Glycol Chiller

I have the same setup and don’t use hop socks.

Advice on using Grainfather Conical Fermenter & Glycol Chiller

I have this with my fermenter, sometimes the hop material blocks the holes in the outlet pipework. I normally let the transfer pipework fill with liquid, then lift it vertical so the fluid level in the pipe is higher than that in the fermenter. The fluid then backflushes into the fermenter...

    NEIPA turned out clear

I completely agree on it not being crystal clear. Your description of it being leas murky than the style is spot on. I’ll ignore the appearance and enjoy the taste.

    NEIPA turned out clear

This was one of MM receipt kits. Aside from not chilling the wort for the hop stand, everything else was as per the instructions.

    NEIPA turned out clear

Hi, I brewed my first NEIPA the other day, whilst it’s turned out quite tasty, is is unusually clear. Any ideas on what I’ve done wrong or why it could’ve done this?

    Wetherspoons

I couldn’t agree more with the above, it’s not to everybody’s taste, but I’ve no issue paying £1.50 a pint less, whilst ordering and eating ‘consistent’ albeit not gourmet food. Yes, you can get better atmosphere elsewhere, but as I’m going in to sit with my missus anyway, it doesn’t really...

    Bottling Guns

Thanks everyone for your input. I’ve taken the plunge and gone for one of these. I’ll review once I’ve used a few times.

    Bottling Guns

I’d not even considered the tapcooler counter chiller, I’ll have a look.

    Bottling Guns

Hi Animated, thanks for the reply. Definitely some good advice there. It’d be good to hear how you get on. Good luck with the move.
