    Taking advantage of cold weather

No chance to go on a ski holiday this year but at least I did a proper cold crash in the shed at just below 0 C. The beer came out really clear before I kegged it.

Counterflow chillers - are they worth it?

The theoretical minimum is about 160 litres but you need a substantial margin in order to make it actually work.

Counterflow chillers - are they worth it?

I don't think you need another coil. You can just recirculate the cooling water from a water drum through your counter flow chiller and back to the drum ( or water butt as they call them around here) with a pump. I recon 200 L water butt at 10 C should be plenty to chill your wort to 20 C...

Hop additions for a punk IPA style

There is also a smartphone app called DIY Dawg. It's like a library of the published Brewdog's recipes.

One year old Styrian Goldings kept outside the freezer

Thanks guys, that sounds encouraging. I'll have to think what recipe to brew with these hops.

One year old Styrian Goldings kept outside the freezer

I found a vacuum pack of Styrian Goldings that I had forgotten about for nearly a year. They sat in a cupboard, not in the freezer. So I wonder are these hops any good and how can I tell if they are no longer good to use?

Pan size for Brupaks Chateau Blonde

@Andymoz-70 , don't despair. You can split the ingredients in two and make two half size batches.

Pan size for Brupaks Chateau Blonde

I have done stove top BIAB before and it works but could be a bit tricky when sparging. I would say, before you start, make sure your stove can bring the the full stock pot to a stable rolling boil. Mine was struggling. Just test it with water first. On the mash side of things, 2.5 kg/litre...

    Greg Hughes recipes

I was wondering a bit but then decided to buy the newer one. If there were any mistakes encountered in the first edition, they should have been fixed for the second one. That's my line of thinking.

    Greg Hughes recipes

Hi All, I admit I haven't read the whole thread and I'm rather new to brewing. As it looks Greg Hughes' recipes are highly regarded and I'm thinking of buying the book. I found 2 on amazon - this one and this one. So, I was wondering which one is the Greg Hughes' book with recipes? Or ...

    Lager Making

I've only made one propper lager so far and I kegged it, so I can't give very useful advice but I have the feeling that if you lager for a few weeks most of the yeast would drop out of suspension. Wouldn't that make a subsequent bottle carbonation rather difficult? I have a lager still in the...

Hop additions for a punk IPA style

I made my Punk clone (AG) following the DIY Dog's recipe with some hop substitutions. For kit modification , I would think any American IPA kit would do as basis, then you bring it to boil and add the late additions in the same way as for the AG recipe. Dry hopping is the key part. I think I...

First boil in a bag brew - damn, how did that happen!?

To the original post, @Seghes if you are not happy with the ABV, the easiest solution is to add some sugar during the fermentation (preferably towards the end) to compensate for the missed OG. Regarding the mash time, I don't rely on the recipe time as the circumstances vary a lot. I use...

    Tangerine Extract

@Mick_Brews have you tried contacting Brewdog? Since they were considerate enough to publish the recipe, they might as well sell you some ingredients too.

How long have you been brewing for?

I started just over an year ago with a couple of kits. Moved to AG during the first lockdown.

How to use iSpindel without external service

The two packages quoted above are actually two versions of the same code. avollkopf/iSpindel-TCP-Server is the newer version (v. 3.1). @JT_Brews, I also want to control staff with the RPi and to use iSpindel as an input. However, I hadn't found the time to build the hardware interface. Would...
