    New toy

When I bought a pump I also bought an inline filter. However I found that it clogged very quickly so I use the pump without it now. If I am using whole hops in the boil I use a mesh "bazooka" filter to avoid clogging the pump. But when using pellets I remove that because the debris is fine...

I feel for you. If someone makes an unbreakable hydrometer they'd make a fortune.

Counterflow chillers. How long do you leave it after the boil?

Thanks, looks good. I am thinking of trying this one: 8mm Alloy Inline Fuel Filter See Through Glass CNC Machined Silver Motorsport Offroad https://amzn.eu/d/1kJ5xsS The pick up pipe in my Grainfather conical FV is good but occasionally chunks of yeast get through if it's a larger brew, or hop...

Counterflow chiller quick disconnects - advice needed

Same... I use camlocks. The annoying part for me is that there's always a bit more wort or water that will drip out and makes a mess.

Counterflow chillers. How long do you leave it after the boil?

Looks nice although it says aluminium not stainless steel. Is it food safe?

CFC & Whirlpools - when do you do what?

Nice 🙂 Is the trubtrap a home made thing? You said you sanitise the CFC by circulating through it at the beginning of the boil, right? Presumably not including the hop rocket?

    Dry hops floating

Might need 2 spoons or split between bags with a spoon in each, depending on how many hops you have. It's surprising how buoyant hops can be.

By scrubby do you mean a metal washing up scourer? Any chance of a picture or link to that filter?

    Anyone make Gose?

I once had a ginger and rhubarb sour. Heavy on the ginger. I generally don't like sour beers and I thought I would not like it but for some reason I did. I am thinking chilli with just a bit of sour might be good.

    Anyone make Gose?

I have thought about making a chilli sour gose but I am not sure when I will get round to it. Anyone tried this?

Counterflow chillers. How long do you leave it after the boil?

I use the cooling water from my CFC for cleaning. Very little wasted.

    New toy

If that's 4 weeks bottle conditioning then 2 weeks should be enough to have a drinkable brew although it will improve the longer you leave it.

How to remove bottle labels the easy way.

This. It works for particularly stubborn paper still attached to strong glue, or for residual sticky-stuff. Also can remove the codes and/or dates printed directly on the bottle, if you care.

How to remove bottle labels the easy way.

I have never had a problem with these. I use a bench capper now but I don't recall any issue with the 2-handle capper in the past. Of course after removing labels I don't track which bottles were Greene King IPA but I most definitely used some.

    Water Chemistry adjustment

I have recently begun using AWS and DWB based on my water report (Anglian water). So far I am happy. But can't help thinking I might be missing or misunderstanding something or many things. My brain stubbornly gets confused every time I try to get into this so I am saving this thread and @peebee...

What fermentation temp control swings are acceptable?

The Grainfather conical FV works well with a shelf cooler using the Grainfather pump kit. I use it with just water, for ale fermentation temperatures it's fine. The FV is not cheap but after getting caught out by a too-warm ferment in summer 2020 I took the plunge. I think it's pretty...

    Bottling day help

I prime individually to avoid the o2 and infection risk of another transfer. Also I bottle under gravity from the FV so I would have to lift the bottling bucket up if doing that. Having said that, individual dosing is a pain. But I wanted to ask - do people really measure sugar to the 1/10 of...

Tell us about your regular/house brews

I like trying new brews too much to repeat-brew much. I have a golden ale I am evolving but haven't really repeated anything else yet.

    Help!

The problem with using a barrel and no CO2 is that the remaining beer will probably oxidise after a few days anyway (once you've started drinking it). If you don't want to get into CO2 cylinders then your best option I reckon is bottle-conditioning. As @Jim Brewster said you can add sugar...

    Small Beer

I have not tried a low ABV brew yet but the comments here got me searching out of curiosity and I found this: WLP618 NA All Day | White Labs There are a number of links to advice pages on that page too.
