    Morgans Beer Kits

What condition were the cans in? My Morgans kits arrived from Brew2Bottle with an array of dents that presumably happened before packaging as the external box is undamaged. The Iron Bark Dark Ale looks as though it's been dropped and then someone tried to chew the can for good measure!

    Infected brew ?

I'm not saying that you are wrong about tap water varying, but individual perception of such things can be influenced by other factors and I certainly notice the chemicals far more when I have had a break from them. For example on returning from a work trip or holiday (remember those!) where...

    Another stuck fermentation

Glad to hear that it was ok, although the thought of carrot whisky is giving me some nasty flashbacks! My parents made some when I was a kid and as I recall it was absolutely foul stuff that no one could drink. Hopefully yours is better. :laugh8:

    Infected brew ?

Are such medical questions allowed? ;) Anyway, I say stop worrying and bottle it. May be in for a pleasant surprise in a month or two.

    Hammer of Thor initial hydrometer

Definitely sterilise your mixing spoon, give it all another really good stir then take a sample from the top or put your (thoroughly sanitised) hydrometer into the fermenter and take another reading.

    Hammer of Thor initial hydrometer

If the beer is supposed to be 6% ABV then that does seem high. Have you tested the hydrometer is correct - does it read 0 in plain water? Otherwise the most obvious explanations would be that that the wort hasn't been mixed sufficiently so is not homogeneous and your reading is not...

Add yeast after 4 to 6 days? Bad Wilko!!!

Doesn't your wort take 4 to 6 days to cool? :laugh8: Doubtless experienced home brewers wouldn't make such a mistake, but someone new to brewing and following those instructions step by step may just assume that waiting 6 days before adding yeast is part of the process.

Add yeast after 4 to 6 days? Bad Wilko!!!

I saw a question about this elsewhere and thought the person must have read it wrong. However, Wilko instructions do seem to advise people to add yeast to their beer kit after "After 4 – 6 days" ashock1 https://corporate.wilko.com/_pdfs/WILKO_HOW_TO_HOMEBREW_LEAFLET_2019_hr.pdf...

    Jaipur IPA

I've not seen one of those tasting sessions before, but some interesting comments about people experiencing can variability of Jaipur.

    Morgans Beer Kits

One that I evidently stumbled into by accident! My Australian Monster I'm thinking that my next Toucan attempt will be a 1.7KG Morgans Dockside Stout and a 1.7KG Morgans Ironbark Dark Ale with 1KG of brewing sugar.

    My Australian Monster

Still a while before I give it a taste, but the beer is now crystal clear in bottle and the colour is beautiful. I just hope some bitterness comes through to balance out the strong malt flavour it had at bottling. Also, I'm now fully aware that Toucan brewing is a thing and have ordered some...

    Morgans Beer Kits

Yes. Either double up the same kit or mix and match. You can leave out the sugar completely, or add (say) 1KG for a strong brew. I suppose you could still put in 2KG if you were trying to go full on imperial stout/barely wine territory.

    Jaipur IPA

I've enjoyed cask Jaipur IPA many times in pubs and seem to recall the canned/bottled version being alright. Drank a can of it last night (first in a while) and it wasn't anywhere near as nice as I was expecting. Anyone else got a view on this? Has it changed, was it always poor in cans, or was...

Checked it again and it's looking really clear now, but will give it some more time and leave bottling until tomorrow.

    Morgans Beer Kits

Presumably like a super strength lager. I won't be trying that as it's not a style I particularly like. This guy does though! I've decided to take the plunge and have ordered some of the discounted Morgans kits with a view to doing some 2 can experiments.

Supermarket Juice Wine How To guide and Recipes.

Although perhaps not crystal clear, the red grape and apple juice wine is now much clearer than it was yesterday. I'll give it a few more hours and then probably bottle it this evening. I believe this wine is supposed to be drunk quite young. Considering that it had 4 weeks fermenting in the...

    Wilko Geordie lager kit

Yeah but no but. :D Yes there will be increased bitterness, but there should also be more body and sweetness from the extra malt (and more alcohol kick) to balance it out, so it won't be the same as simply doubling the bitterness of the original kit in isolation.

Was the fermentation on the lively side?

Supermarket Juice Wine How To guide and Recipes.

Too late! Already added them now. Tried to use about a third of the contents, although quite tricky to see how much of a clear liquid you are pouring from soft plastic pouches, especially as they are joined together. We will see what tomorrow brings. Hopefully including some clear wine...

1 can kit with no additions to make low abv beer?

Adding extra water to a kit isn't going to create a tasty beverage though, which removing sugar and reducing water should deliver. As I recall 1KG of sugar adds about 2.6% ABV to a 23 Litre brew. So a 23 litre kit with a target ABV of 4% would end up around 1.4% without the sugar at 23 Litres...
