  1. Random Badger

Another dreaded "has my fermentation finished?" thread.

So how did it turn out? Colour = very dark indeed. Bit of a roast malt aroma but not much else on the nose. The treacle really comes through in the flavour. Not so much in an overpowering everything else way, more a case of it not having much competition. Presumably due to the high finishing...

    My Australian Monster

Decided to knock out another Australian Toucan, not least to use some damaged cans that I received from Brew2Bottle as I don't think they should be kept hanging around. Morgans Dockside Stout 1.7KG Morgans Ironbark Dark Ale 1.7KG 1KG Brewing sugar 23 Litres brew length 1 sachet Coopers yeast 1...

    My Australian Monster

Thought I would give a bottle of the Australian Monster an early assessment. Crystal clear with a nice deep red colour Not much on the nose Initial flavour hit malty/toffee/caramel Once you get past this it's quite fruity with a bitter finish that seems to build up as you get further down the...

    Coopers Irish stout

Mine had been in the fermenter for two weeks and reading 1010 for a few days so I bottled it this evening. The early taste I had seemed promising, now just need to wait another four weeks for a proper go...

RAFFLE #18 Grainfather Advanced Brewery Set Up

No wait, I have a better idea. IainM now holds his own Grainfather raffle but sells the same number of tickets at £9 each, which everyone agrees is a bargain. Then whoever wins does another Grainfather Advanced Brewery raffle with tickets priced at £8 each. We can keep this going all year as...

RAFFLE #18 Grainfather Advanced Brewery Set Up

Congrats! The beers are definitely on you - when you've brewed them on your new kit, of course. :laugh8:

    Coconut wine.

Not tried it myself, but I vaguely recall reading a post (somewhere) that reported disappointing results fermenting coconut water.

RAFFLE #18 Grainfather Advanced Brewery Set Up

The way I see it, I have only got one less chance of winning than someone who actually bought a ticket.

RAFFLE #18 Grainfather Advanced Brewery Set Up

I'm literally on the edge of my seat with excitement here. And I didn't even buy a ticket.

    fruit tea bag wines recipes

I was considering trying out a jam wine when the demijohn becomes free, but as I already have a box of Wild Berry fruit tea bags in the cupboard this may have just jumped the queue. Does anyone know whether the citric acid is required or optional? Will two teaspoons from a bottle of Jif Lemon...

    fruit tea bag wines recipes

Interesting that this recipe says to use 3 ordinary tea bags (presumably for tannin) with 10 fruit teabags, whereas the other fruit tea wine recipe shared recently only used the fruit ones, but doubled the quantity to 20. What happens if you go crazy and make it with 20 fruit tea bags and 3...

Sweet Red Berry Fruit Tea Wine

It's funny that people use regular tea bags to add tannin to fruit juice cider and wine, but not in a fruit tea bag wine recipe.

    Morgans dockside stout kit

If you don't have a heating device/control you can always stick a blanket (or similar) around the fermenter where it is.

    Morgans dockside stout kit

If you can control the temperature it may be worth bumping it up by a couple of degrees to encourage the yeast to crack on with the job.

    Morgans dockside stout kit

Not yet, but I've got two Morgans Dockside Stout kits here that arrived yesterday - dented but hopefully good to brew! The instructions on the can mention a target of 1005 or below, although that does seem on the low side for a stout. 1020 sounds high for an FG and I would think closer to 1010...

    Morgans Beer Kits

Interesting idea - I hadn't thought about combining two different yeasts in the same brew. I'll drop Brew2Bottle a line about the damaged cans and see what they say.

    Morgans Beer Kits

It's going to be my next brew as soon as the fermenter is free. I think I should get on and use the Iron Bark Dark Ale as the can arrived in poor shape. I'm wondering what to do about yeast for my Toucan as there seem to be quite a few reports of stuck/slow fermentations with Morgans kits. I...
