Hypaball was also a thing of beauty

    ZX Spectrum

First ever computer was a C64, followed by a brief fling with and Atari ST, before returned to the fold for an Amiga (with an additional external disk drive. Made playing the epic 12 disk Monkey Island 2 much more manageable). After that messed about with the usual PS1 to PS3. Pretty much missed...

UK pub numbers rise for the first time in a decade

Exactly mate. Whenever we go on a family holiday to the Lake District or somewhere similar, I'm like a kid in a candy store in the small local pubs. Not all the ales are great but all are a darn sight better than Belhaven Best wink...

UK pub numbers rise for the first time in a decade

Round my way (Renfrewshire) Wetherspoons is your best bet on getting real ales on cask. Not the only supplier but not far from it. Most pubs only really sell lagers, token IPA or Guinness on keg asad1

    Bottling via a second bucket

I always batch prime from a bottling bucket. As long as you have a hose or auto syphon that reaches the bottom of the bottling bucket from the FV, oxidation should be minimized and you are good to go. My bottling bucket has a tap which I connect the bottling wand to.

UK pub numbers rise for the first time in a decade

I think it reflects a real shift in drinking culture. Even as recent as the mid to late 90s, when I started going out to pubs with my mates, the vast majority of local boozers were just that. Real drinking dens with little to no windows (so folk's wives couldnt see if their man was getting...

Hop Spider or no Hop Spider

Greg Hughes APA would be a decent place to start. Without the hop spider it makes a pretty hoppy beer to start from, and Im sure the new edition recipe has added dry hopping athumb..

ASDA to close in-store meat and fish counters.

Visiting the Booths in Keswick is a holiday ritual/treat when we are on holiday in the lake district athumb.. One of the best bits of the holiday TBF :laugh8:

Hop Spider or no Hop Spider

That is real shame. Looks the part, but I suppose thats not the important part! Wonder why low hop profile with the amount of dry hopping?

Hop Spider or no Hop Spider

Out of curiosity, what was the most expensive hop to take it up to 40 squid if you don't mind me asking? I'm assuming it was the cost of hops?

Hop Spider or no Hop Spider

No mention of hop stand in the book. Just says to add them at turn off (assuming that means flame out).

Hop Spider or no Hop Spider

Just checked the GH Bible. Does say to add both dry hops at last 3 days of fermentation. It does suggest to add half dry hops earlier at gravity of 1.020 then the rest at FG for extra fruitiness! At £40 for the ingredients I hope it brews up a treat for you. Still, at about a pound a pint for a...

    Fish and Chips.

Just to throw this out there. As well as the regular fish supper, around the Greater Glasgow area (possibly beyond), you can also get a "Fish Tea", which is a sit in fish supper with bread & butter and a pot of tea. If you ever happen to be passing the Blue Lagoon at Glasgow Central under the...

Amarillo Single Hop Ale - Greg Hughes

Oh well, bang goes that theory :laugh8:. Dunno why Dry Hopping was missing from earlier editions then.

Amarillo Single Hop Ale - Greg Hughes

He has only just added dry hopping to recipes that didn't have them before in the new edition. I assume dry hopping wasn't really fashionable when the book was first written.

Also, Id be interested to know how it turns out! acheers.

    Help me decide!

+1 for this. First thing I ever brewed was the bog standard Pale Ale from this book. Really simple and turned out well for a first attempt. Gave me a great first step to get to grips with everything. Not on a GF though, but still, same principles apply.
