    What did you brew today?

Thinking about doing an OP in the not too distant future so this could be an interesting recipe. Thanks.

    Winexpert Classic Smooth Red

I’ve made the WE Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon and agree with @Nottsbeer. Perfectly drinkable straight away but quite a bit better a few months later. Have given a few bottles away to friends and, unless they were just being polite, they were pretty pleased with them too.

    What did you brew today?

And as there isn’t a thread called “what did you brew two days ago”, then belatedly I brewed my first AG stout on Saturday, based on the Hughes recipe. I think I messed up my last yeast order so used a sachet of WHC High Voltage which might not be entirely suitable but apparently can be used for...

    What did you brew today?

Update on this. Had a couple of bottles at the weekend and it’s tasting really good. Not sure it’s exactly the same as real TTL (lighter colour and a touch less malty) but nice floral notes and better than the bottled version of TTL.

What are you drinking tonight 2024.

My chocolate mild, very nice and already improved compared to last weeks (very young) bottle.

    What did you brew today?

In progress at the moment, an alleged Tim Taylor Landlord clone, using an all grain recipe kit from Brew Day. Malt is golden promise, hops are Fuggles, EKG and Styrian Goldings.

Nelson Sauvin Single Hop Pale as my second ever AG brew

Still conditioning in bottles. Tasting before bottling was pretty good and it looks to be clearing well.

    What did you brew today?

Another Citra Pale yesterday. Changed my mind last minute, was going to be a 11.5 litre all grain batch with a total of 50g hops but I decided to make a bigger batch and use up some leftover pale DME. So after the mash I added that to the boil and bumped up the hops to a whole packet of Citra...

    Craft Beer and Brewing

Free on PressReader for me too with my local library login. I’ve looked at a few issues, it’s a good interesting read but as a confirmed amateur and near-beginner I wouldn’t pay for it.

What are you drinking tonight 2024.

Bit of a sad day really. I’m toying with the idea of brewing a Klopp inspired beer in commemoration. A Dortmunder Export of course. Think I’d call it “Gegenpress”.

What are you drinking tonight 2024.

Yesterday evening I celebrated successful completion of my second AG brew day by conducting the first tasting of the results of my first ever AG brew day. A mighty ESB. Very pleased with this.

Nelson Sauvin Single Hop Pale as my second ever AG brew

Now cooled enough to pitch. OG was 1050, close enough to the recipe 1047. Perhaps more due to luck than judgement as I’m still getting used to what my boil off losses, and efficiency are going to be in this set up, and what top-ups are needed. Anyway on we go. Last time I used US-05 it was...

Nelson Sauvin Single Hop Pale as my second ever AG brew

Wort is now cooling in the sink. The specific heat capacity of H2O is a mighty thing, it’s a pretty slow process. Once cooled the wort will be treated to some Safale US-05.

Nelson Sauvin Single Hop Pale as my second ever AG brew

Picked a pretty straightforward recipe for my second ever AG brew. Based on the Greg Hughes Nelson Sauvin Single Hop Ale downscaled to 11.5 litres. Mostly Maris Otter for the mash with a bit of Carapils. Temperature was a pretty constant 65-66 for 90 mins (BIAB with a jug/colander sparge). 4...

What are you drinking tonight 2024.

It was this one. Muntons Gold “Imperial” Stout. Not really Imperial at all but pretty good.

What are you drinking tonight 2024.

I’ve taken some of my beer on holiday with me. This stout is just from a kit but dare I say it’s better than the bottle of G**n***s I also brought.

What are you drinking tonight 2024.

A pint (ok, maybe two) of Loweswater Gold at the Kings Head Thirlmere. Suitable reward for a successful conquest of Helvellyn today. A superb day for walking.

Higher stout consumption driven by female drinkers

Nothing new under the sun. Wasn't Giles’ Grandma partial to a Guinness?

What are you drinking tonight 2024.

Sneaked in a very early taste (well, just the two bottles) of my Citra Pale. Extract recipe loosely based on Greg Hughes Citra\Simcoe but only using Citra. Flippin ‘eck it’s good. Just need some warm weather to go with it.

ESB for my first ever all-grain brew day

OK I get you. I don't think this supplier offered the choice but some others do so I'll look out for that.
