    Contaminated beer EVERY time!

My fermentation fridge smells terrible when you open the door but that’s just the smell that comes from fermentation. Never get it carried over to the beer. Are you using plastic fermenters? You can get scratches that harbour bacteria and sanitiser won’t work it’s way into the scratch and kill...

Prices about to go up substantially

The main issue with the cost of malt and hops will be the fertiliser prices have gone from about £300 a tonne to over £700 a tonne due to the gas price rise. Also with one of the plants in the uk shut down at the moment the demand had already outstripped the supply.

Also check out the head of steam in Liverpool. First bar I found beavertown in and has a great selection of craft ales. Well off topic this thread now 😂

    Lager Fermentation Process

Gelatin is used to clear up beer. It binds all of the proteins and yeast etc in the beer together and then when you cool it right down then it all falls out of suspension. There’s loads online about clearing beer up with gelatin. The 10 days is just from it going into the fermentation fridge...

    Lager Fermentation Process

I find even without the finings the beer comes out very clear. It was more just to try to remove the chill haze I usually get with almost all of my home brews.

    Lager Fermentation Process

I've just brewed a pilsner and it was 10°C for 10 days. 20°C for 3 days for D-rest and to ensure fermentation is complete. Crash at 2°C for 24 hours before adding gelatin. Leave at 2°C to fully clear for another 2 days then transfer into a keg. Cold condition around 2-4°C for 4 weeks under CO2...

    Posting Homebrew To A Friend

Cheers, yeah I was thinking 12-24 330ml cans at a time. DHL seem to be the best option I can find and Royal Mail will allow it if you pay them the extra. They're not home brewed beer cans.... its mainly water mr customs and excise man.

    Posting Homebrew To A Friend

Does anyone regularly ship home brew to a friend within the UK? I am looking at getting a cannular pro when they're back in stop at brewkegtap in a couple of months and was wondering does anyone regularly send their home brew to friends. I have a good friend who moved about 250 miles away and...

    You couldn't make it up.

    Out of date ingredients

Well so far it’s been the slowest sparge I’ve ever had but all else seems good!

    Out of date ingredients

They have been stored nitrogen flushed and vacuum sealed in a foil bag but have just been in the back of the garage so temps anywhere between freezing and maybe 15-18°C I guess. They’re going in anyway as they still smell of hops. Not as strong as I would expect Citra to be but still definitely...

    Out of date ingredients

I’ve just found an all grain kit I must have ordered a few years back because the hops (Citra) are marked best before December 2020 and the yeast (dry wheat wb06) should have been used by Feb 2021. The grain is in sealed bags with no date on. I’m going to brew it up anyway but might use some...

The next Malt buy by the South Cheshire Co-operative

Any ideas where we're upto on numbers? I'm looking at brewing something on the 31st and was wondering if you think you will have the order in my then or if I need to just buy a small amount from my local HBS to get me by.

    Grainfather G30 Rolled Edge Plates

I think you might be lucky then because it takes me about 4-5 attempts every time regardless of the lubrication I use to try to get mine to fit. I almost welded it in place without the seals 😂
