    Bottling, sugar and carbonation drops

Thanks terry, I’ve obviously cocked up the priming, is there anything i can do to fix this. Is it too late to flush the headspace now, it’s been in the pb for 4 days at 19°C now

    Bottling, sugar and carbonation drops

Just a quick question, i bottled 5 litres of my first brew and put the rest (17-18l) in a pb, the priming calculator posted on here said to put 1.1g of sugar in a 500ml bottle and 61g in the pb with the beer being at 5°C as it had been cold crashed for 2 1/2 days, does this sound right as it...

    Calculating abv

Well i was worried about getting the temperature right to ferment, as it gets pretty cold, down to about 12-14° at night in my kitchen where i was keeping it so i used a heat mat with a box and duvet for insulation and the first night the temp rose to 28° and had a bit of a blow out of the...

    Calculating abv

I have the fg it’s 1004. I took a reading when i got a new hydrometer but that was 7 days after pitching, that reading was 1009.

    Calculating abv

Yes it was a youngs american ipa kit, i stupidly broke the hydrometer when sanitising everything as i was about to take a reading before i pitched the yeast.

    Calculating abv

Hehe, I’ll gauge it by how many doors i walk into after 5 pints.

    Calculating abv

Is there any way of calculating abv if you stupidly broke your hydrometer at the mixing stage before you had a chance to take a reading. (Asking for a friend, honest). Is this the the right formula to calculate abv- og -fg x 131.25.

    Heat pad help

I have a reptile heat pad in my fridge with a inkbird 308 thermostat to regulate the temp and it’s holding nicely at 19°C.

    Heat pad help

I used one of those heat mats for my very first ferment recently, i sat my fv on a frame about half inch off the mat and put a cardboard box over the whole fv with a hole cut out to see the airlock and one for the temp gauge so I didn’t have to disturb it at all and put an old duvet over the...

Has anybody tried the Muntons Gold 40 pint continental pilsner kit. I’m thinking of doing this for my second brew as I’ve now bottled and kegged my first IPA so am thinking of this for my next one as i now have the home brew bug.

    Youngs American IPA Help

I’ll keep you posted after i bottle it tomorrow, if i could go back to the start, after what I’ve been told on here, i wouldve left it another 5 or 6 days fermenting before i added the hops but i was just going off the instructions which people tell me are very optimistic time wise so in future...

    Youngs American IPA Help

Hi lamby h hi lamby it looks and sounds exactly like mine, i started it 2 weeks ago today from the youngs American ipa kit and the first 2 days the temp rose to 28° as i had a heat mat under it, it had a blow out of the airlock too but not too massive, then it took a day or 2 for activity to...

    Bottling day

Tomorrow is bottling day so any advice would be welcome. My American IPA has been cold crashing for 2 days now and the fg has been steady at 1004 for the last 5 days from 3 readings, so tomorrow i plan on bottling some of my brew and kegging the rest. Out of the 23 litres i plan on bottling 5...

    Brand new to home brewing.

I’ve just taken a 3rd sg reading and it’s been stable for 3 days at 1004, is this a little low for an ipa? I have moved the fv to the cellar now and it will sit in 14° overnight and then after i take another sg reading if it’s the same i plan on putting it in the fridge at 4° for 2 days then...

    Beer kit recommendations

So to cold crash it what sort of temperature should i keep it at and for how long and then do i bottle/barrel straight away or let it come back to room temp. Thanks for all your help everyone it’s much more informative than just reading instructions from the kit.
