    Liquid malt extract

I’m open to any suggestions though the only problem i have is I can’t do a full mash and boil up as I don’t have the facility to do this yet, eventually thats the goal.

    Liquid malt extract

The last one was a lager with a californian m54 lager yeast so it fermented closer to an ale temp i dry hopped with some saaz hops. I’m very new to brewing so I can’t compare a boil up with added hops to a kit type brew with just dry hops but I’m sure the boil up gives more flavour I’m just not...

    Liquid malt extract

I’m doing the same now, my 3rd brew I’m using 2.4kg of extract with 500g of spraymalt and 500-1kg of sugar depending on the og reading after 500g. I’m not doing a boil up I’m doing it as you would a kit With about 4 litres of boiled water to mix the extract, sugar and dme then top up to...

    Brewday no.3

Thanks cestrian, yeah I’m not quite sure of the dry hop yet i was just thinking of doing this as I’m not doing any kind of boil up so I thought it might add a little something that might be missing but I’m open to any suggestions. How long was your fermentation to reach fg, I haven’t used a...

    Brewday no.3

My next brew day is tomorrow and I’m planning a lager extract brew. 2.4kg of light malt extract, 500g dme, 500g brewing sugar. 2 x bavarian lager M76 yeast. Fermenting in the cellar at 10-12° until FG is reached, then I want to dry hop for 3 days transfer to secondary fv and condition at room...

Does anybody wash their bottles in a dishwasher?

I think I may have cocked up my first brew

This was the beer on bottling day so probably 3 weeks in, the small plastic bottles we’re to test week by week I don’t know if you can tell properly but they’re not massively clear here.

I think I may have cocked up my first brew

After i cold crashed and bottled/kegged it was still a bit hazy so that was about 3 weeks in from brew day then it took another 3 weeks to start clearing it wasn’t crystal clear even by the end but it was clear enough to see your fingers through the pint glass, and i was more focused on the...

I think I may have cocked up my first brew

Hi jerry i did the exact same kit as my first in December last yr, it started off like a rocket and then settled down to a steady ferment at around 22°, my process was 1. FV- 12 days ferment was done at 1004 FG after 3 consecutive readings 2. Dry hopped for 3 days 3. cold crashed for 3 days at...

Jan 21 Malt Group Buy - Time to Order

just wanted to say a thank you to chopps and OB and anyone else involved in organising the group buy, luckily i managed to snap up a couple of bags that were left, i just hope i can do them justice. Thanks all. And for the warm welcome to snowy Sandbach, it was nice to put a face to the name.

    Is this normal

It can also depend what yeast is used, most lager yeasts like to ferment at around 8-12° with some being more like an ale yeast and will ferment between 18-22° it depends what yeast came with the kit.

    Extra fermentable

I can’t see why not. I’ve recently done a MJ Czech pilsner extract kit which had 2.2kg of pure malt extract included and I added 500g of muntons spraymalt and 1kg of brewing sugar, i made it to 21 litres and the OG was 1052 the FG is 1005 making it around 6.1% and it tastes and smells very nice...

    Cold crashing

    Interesting

    Cold crashing

Yeah it’s only my 2nd brew and first lager so I’m going to cold crash it in the fv to let everything drop then bottle and condition.

    Cold crashing

I’m about to cold crash a MJ czech pilsner before bottling, is it best to drop the temp in the fridge all in one go or drop a few degrees per day. It’s finished fermenting at 20° and has been dry hopped for 2 days so I’m wondering if a big drop in temp from 20° to around 3° in a short space of...

    Lager Making

This is what I’m wondering, prime bottle and condition then fridge or fridge then prime and bottle and condition.

    Lager Making

So if i transfer to secondary then stash in the fridge at about 2° for 6 weeks then bottle and prime then condition at room temp for a couple of weeks then into fridge again with the bottles does that sound right.

    Lager Making

If i was to condition in a secondary barrel and leave in the fridge for 6weeks then bottle am i right in thinking I don’t prime it until i bottle it. I don’t prime it in secondary do i? Sorry steve I don’t mean to hijack your post, it’s a really interesting read.

    Lager yeast

Tangle when you pitched how much yeast did you use, I’m doing a similar brew but with bavarian m76 and don’t know how much dried yeast i should pitch, imwill be rehydrating it.
