Im all a quiver with excitement - BZ gen 4 delivered

Does anybody know how difficult or if it would be possible to wire in a Brewzilla control unit to a Grainfather S40 ? These control units are cheap and would be a great upgrade to the S40 as that is the only thing the S40 needs to make it a great cheap AIO system. I was just looking at the Bz...

Im all a quiver with excitement - BZ gen 4 delivered

Good on you cannot beat home brewed beer. I bought a 35L version before Christmas to try after using my trusty Grainfather S40 for the last few years. I have not been able to use it because of a wrist operation I had back in November but I am feeling a lot less pain so tomorrow will be my first...

    Best all-in-one brewing system

I would say that neither of them has a clue but I do not hold back.

    Best all-in-one brewing system

Sorry I disagree. Nobody says that AIO systems are automatic but you can program the system to indicate when steps need to be taken. However to suggest that an AIO one it a stainless BIAB is false in my opinion. You need to add a lot more than a boiler to make a nylon sack into an AIO system...

    Best all-in-one brewing system

Not exactly but I see where you are coming from. Some like BIAB personally I think it is slighlty to an AIO . The AIO comes at a price but I think it is more user friendly but each to their own.

Brewzilla Gen 4 advice and experiences

To be honest I am not interested in pushing buttons when a machine tells me to I am hands on so when it come to the boil I just set the temp to say 105C full power and start the timer when it reaches the boil. Many have said that it is best to do the calibration between 60C for T1 and 100 for...

Brewzilla Gen 4 advice and experiences

I have heard that trying to calibrate the internal sensor is futile as it is a none linear device. I have noticed that when I tried my Bz with just a bit of water in to get an idea of heating time to a 70C strike temp the sensor read 1.5C lower than a calibrated mercury thermo... not awe...

Brewzilla Gen 4 advice and experiences

Sounds like you are talking about a corona mill? I used one for a wee while and they are fine but it is difficult to control the crush size. I would say they are more suited to BIAB where finer is best. Thats good no harm done! If you look on youtube for this guy he has done good videos for Bz...

Brewzilla Gen 4 advice and experiences

I would not worriy about it you got your wort and a good eff. The sugars may be slightly less fermentable though. The grains may have been crushed a bit more it is difficult to tell visually you need to sift them to find out the proportion of fine material. If you have your own mill you can be...

Brewzilla Gen 4 advice and experiences

First thing I did was buy the RAPT temp controlor/ thermometer simply because that was how I got round my S40 over shoots. As has been said you have to understand how these systems work, and they are all the same more or less. In my opinion the temp at the top is the one you want to watch most...

Brewzilla Gen 4 advice and experiences

It is odd but for me it points to grain crush and or possible compacted grain bed. There is no doubt that stirring does help but if you do this let the grains settle for a bit before you restart the pump. I am begining to wonder why I bought the Bz now my GF S40 works really well but does suffer...

Brewzilla Gen 4 advice and experiences

This seems strange . Did you have anything unusual in the grist eg. wheat? I actually find this worrying because the heaters will have been heating the bottom of the kettle even when it may have been short of liquid. It sound like the grains were compacted did you have the top plate on during...

Should a thin, or a thick mash, give higher mash efficiency?

BIAB is slightly different to say using an AIO system. The BIAB naturally gives up a greater volume of wort from the spent grains than the AIO so I am told. Also, and I do not know that it is the case here, BIAB crush grains finer than most AIO brewers would . I suspect that this releases more...

    Is My WLP400 Yeast Infected?

To be honest I have tried liquid yeast cultures and they are good but for me well over priced and ultimately you are at the mercy of the supplier keeping them in the correct conditions, if they get that wrong you are buying rubbish and at the price the are asking that is madness. My advice to...

    Is My WLP400 Yeast Infected?

Suppliers will say anything over the phone 🤣 The thing with liquid yeast is the use by date and how it was stored. Just my opinion but I would say any White labs product that has been stored properly and is still in date should be good IF it has been stored properly. From your side you have...

Brewzilla Gen 4 advice and experiences

Just chipping in really as I have yet to use mine but I will not use the top plate for mashing however for sparging I will be using it, at least for my first brew. My thinking is that for mashing the wort is recycled many times over the grain bed and with the plate compaction in my view will be...

Brewzilla Gen 4 - Struggling to get to boil point

Looks exactly like the one in the video to be honest. As I say these things are knocked out by children and by the look of the one I got the notch for the ring pull nut is slightly out of position. This does affect the fit because to get the feet of the false bottom into the rectangular holes...

Brewzilla Gen 4 - Struggling to get to boil point

I bought it from China. I am certain that it could have been made better. For example the notch where the nut for one of the ring pulls is on the false bottom is not in the correct place so it does not actually fit properly. However the real issue is the false bottom is out of shape because it...

Brewzilla Gen 4 - Struggling to get to boil point

I bought it direct from Kegland . I think the issue is that the false bottom is poorly made, far too tight a fit, and is out of shape due to being such a tight fit in the bottom of the kettle removing it was very detrimental to the shape of the screen. Gash has pointed this out in his video on...
