thanks :) does the sugar make the beer stronger then ?

Hi my name is jack i have just left school and theres not much to do. My grandma has made wine since i can remember so i decided to borrow some of her brewing equpiment and bought a 40 pint Geordie lager kit that was started last night and is going well so far. Does anyone have any tips? thanks.
