    Kit tinkering experiment

Hmmm, yes, I have had a good read thanks. I'm not aiming to introduce fermentables, I want to add body.

    Kit tinkering experiment

I had a little go on my first brewing attempt last night after one week in the bottle. It tasted okay but it wasn't half thin. Also, I think it could have used a bit more priming as it was pretty flat. I made the kit to the volume on the instructions so to improve the body am planning to...

Two-thirds of drivers 'unaware of mobile penalties'

Many moons ago when I was a copper, the regs changed about uninsured driving so the vehicle could be seized on the spot. I think this would be a powerful tool to dissuade mobile users.

    Washing machine clicking

Yep. Unscrew the blue bit (expect a bit of water to come out) and then the compression nut on the bottom. They're available from B&Q and the like for a few quid - you should be able to reuse the olive and nut from the current valve on the new one. Oh... don't forget to turn off the mains...

    Fathers Day

Sounds like you lot are on a winner. I was up at 2:10 for 1 1/2 hours for his night feed/mess about then he woke up properly at 6:30. He did get me a case of beer though which was nice. I'm surprised he managed to be honest, he is big for his age but there's no way he looks 18.

Yeah, I know. The bloke in the shop said not to fit them as it's not a gas tight lid... I've got some now for the next brew.

    Confused about pre-bottling beer cooling

We'll it's all bottled up and doing it's thing. The process wasn't too bad except for the sprog wanting to get his fingers in to everything. Roll on two weeks time!

    Confused about pre-bottling beer cooling

Perfect, thanks chaps. I can't tell you what yeast I'm using as I lobbed the packet when I created the starter - the only thing it had on it was 6g... It's been steady at 1012 since I checked it at the end of the first week. There was still a bit of froth on the top so I let it be. I'll bung...

    Confused about pre-bottling beer cooling

Hello everyone, Here's my first noob question: I'm due to bottle on Friday (2 weeks since start date). Hydrometer reading already shows ~1012 so what the destructions state. Now, I've read on here about cold crashing for 24 hours prior to bottling but am unclear whether this is the fv as it...

Oh, and just for amusement value, here's the morning after brew day: It was a bit more frisky than I expected!

Already on it. ;) I've got a Brupaks Birkby kit ready and waiting although having read Clibit's simple AG thread I'm eager to give that a go! One thing I hadn't thought of beforehand was the agony of cleaning and de-labelling 40 bottles...

    Another new guy

Hello ladies and gents, The last time I tried brewing I was a teenager *cough, cough* years ago and have just started again. I've got a batch of Smugglers Special brewing now which is due to be bottled on Friday. Unfortunately I got the brew on right in the middle of the hot spell so it got a...
