Facebookonomics - what are you worth?

Without dragging the thread off topic, Facebook - and other forms of social media - are massively complex. A lot of research has been undertaken in trying to understand how it works and can be exploited (I've just finished a year long study into it myself). As such I don't believe £66 is an...

    Any other students?

Thinking of going over to the dark side

I cut a hole in the lid of my boiler and use tumble drier ducting to vent the steam out of the window. Works like a charm; the kitchen no longer looks like a sauna on brew days! James

    Bar prices

I agree with you about not wanting to see pubs in decline but around me (S.Wales valleys) the landlords cater to those who want to watch football and have a scrap than those who would like to drink a decent pint. There is a pub two streets away from me that sells some good ales and ciders but...

    Bar prices

If you think £3 a pint of ale is bad, I paid £3 for a pint of Lemonade the week before last in a pub in Whiteley! James

    PE (Physical Education) In Schools

So having skived a bit more from finishing off my dissertation I came across this article on the BBC news website: Girls and sport: Schools urged to make PE more attractive to girls http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-17873519 When I was in school (admittedly not very long ago compared to some) I...

    Any bikers among us?

I'm currently riding a VTR1000F both for commuting and for the weekend blast. In the meantime I'm rebuilding a GS550E with a friend of mine. Hopefully I'll have my dissertation out of the way tomorrow to concentrate on rebuilding the bike. James

Popped my brewing cherry with a double AG brewday!

That chocolate maple porter sounds good! Well done for jumping straight in the deep end, it'll be worth it! Would you mind posting the recipe up, I'd quite like to have a go at it! James

    Relocating

Hello all, Without getting ahead of myself here I'm just after a little advice off those living Fareham / Portsmouth way. I've been offered a career on successful completion (2:1) of my degree. I currently live in South Wales (where I have done for all 23 years of my existence) and it would...

    AG#2 Death by Chocolate Stout

You might be on to something there. At the moment it's just right; I don't think that the beer would work as well if the flavour was any stronger. James

Interesting experiment or just a horrible idea?

I made coffee wine back in September 2011. It tasted bloody awful when I first bottled it (far to bitter) but after leaving it for 7 months it's starting to really get good. Mine came out at 17% I think. James

    Proper Job

I might have a go at this. I've not entered a competition before but fancy a laugh. At the risk of sounding stupid I have a question. If you have to send off a bottle by the 31st of May, wont the beer taste a bit young? James

How many gallons of homebrew in 2012?

5 Gallons of a Hoegaarden clone! Hoping to get another 2 or 3 brews done in the next few weeks. James

    AG#2 Death by Chocolate Stout

Mine was the same. I just assumed it was the powdered chocolate that was once suspended. The sediment has been quite solid and hasn't ended up in the glass. James

    AG#2 Death by Chocolate Stout

I disagree (in a polite way). I put the Vanilla in the boil for the whole ninety minutes. The flavouring is subtle, you know it's there and it compliments the rest of the flavours quite well. Out of interest why do you feel it would destroy the flavour? James

    kettle elements

I used Argos value kettle elements. Just take them out of the kettle, remove the metal tag, place in boiler, plug in the lead and your done. No fussing about! James

    AG#2 Death by Chocolate Stout

It's good isn't it!? Just a quick question as I'm writing my dissertation and haven't really got time to be trawling through the whole thread. How long did you steep the Vanilla for? Mine stayed in the FV from the day I pitched the yeast to the day I bottled the beer. James *Edit* According to...
