Tesco has apologised for any offence from a beer advertisement

I didn't know it was that Richard Cole - I had a 12" of theirs back in the day (just for DJing, of course.)

Tesco has apologised for any offence from a beer advertisement

Yes, a great piece and I couldn't agree more! Personally, I am offended by alco-pop ads but they already banned them here.

Tesco has apologised for any offence from a beer advertisement

    - And you are proud to be one of those few, huh? That you cannot understand that it is disrespectful to knock another's beliefs says it all. I'm afraid I do not subscribe to modern "political correctness" that supports bigotry against some groups while pretending to oppose it against others...

Tesco has apologised for any offence from a beer advertisement

You mean it's not? I remember when I was young one year the breweries went on strike before Christmas - I think the average Australian would have been less upset by the end of the world!

Tesco has apologised for any offence from a beer advertisement

I no longer go to church with any kind of regularity, but I did do almost enough Bible School to become a minister, was a Deacon and preached a number of times in our Church. It seems some religious "personalities" have fallen for the trap of self-righteousness, which is no righteousness at all...

    Fat smack pack

Yes, that is common. Check the useby date, but it has probably just been stored in warmer than optimal conditions. You should make a starter whenever using these yeasts as viability tends to be low.

    STC-1000 temperature controller

So, if instead of connecting power up to the contacts, have you tried putting a meter across the contacts to check if they close?

    STC-1000 temperature controller

You do realise the outputs are just relay contacts which you use to switch power to your heating and cooling sockets, right?

    Coopers European Lager Review

The supplied yeast is a lager yeast, though it doesn't perform well under 14C and there is not enough. All lagers should be pitched with preferably a starter, or double the supplied yeast rehydrated and pitched at 18-20, then slowly brought down to 14C. If brewed at 20C you will find the esters...

    Spice

Prohibition of alcohol not only didn't work in America, it led to a huge growth in the power and popularity of organised crime. The same thing is happening with drugs in most of the world - people glorify criminals due their association with and wealth from the drug trade. I say legalise all...

    The friday night ramble

They probably thought you meant you are gay. I don't like them much myself. If they are done right they can look good, and the bigger they are the more their is to look at, but they don't feel right and prevent a woman ever using their breasts for their intended purpose. More than a...

    Reducing plastic in homebrewing

I agree with the advice about ordering a grain bill in one bag (that's actually the norm here,) but apart from that I can't see why you are so worried. My feijoas are ready, so I have run out of plastic bags at home, and besides, I not only leave grain and grounds in biodegradable bags when I...

    Sediment

Try adding a crushed 1/4 tablet of whirlfloc to your boil 10 minutes before the end and 1/2 teaspoon of gelatin in a cup of water, heated in 30 second increments or gently on the stove until the gelatin dissolves, then stirring in two days before bottling.

    What yeast is it?

In that case I would say yes, just generic ale yeast. Coopers here revolutionised the kit industry with a "generic ale yeast," but it was one that would ferment clean at a wide range of temperatures, flocculates well and has medium-low attenuation. I'd keep them for ginger beer, sourdough...

    DIY - disasters & successes

I DYI everything, from making my own bread and currry paste, to fixing my telly, car, plumbing, etc. Which leads me to an occasion when I was living outback - I was clearing some shrubs from the side of the house and managed to put the chainsaw through the gas pipe! It didn't ignite, but I lost...

    What yeast is it?

They were obviously made by the same factory and it is possible. Turn them over and there should be a code, which included a use-by or manufacturing date, and often type and batch.

    is it time yet

It's always beer time! I assume you are in the Northern Hemisphere, and I personally prefer heavy rich beers in winter, which are better with good long conditioning.

    Yeast washing

A great article on yeast propagation here, though I admit it is a little on the technical side : https://www.maltosefalcons.com/tech/yeast-propagation-and-maintenance-principles-and-practices For simple yeast washing, with pictures: http://aussiehomebrewer.com/topic/55409-rinsing-yeast-in-pictures/

    Lager choice

The lagers mentioned above do not have the clean, watery taste of commercial lagers. Getting a true light lager balanced with say Pilsener malt is very difficult and you will need to know your hops very well. Or use a Coopers kit with lagering and cellaring and it can be pretty good.
