    Grow your own hops

Wow, clearly a lot to take in here. Many thanks for your input. Shall pass this on to my allotment holding friend and see what he thinks!

    Grow your own hops

Hi all, I have a friend who has an allotment and has offered to grow some hops for me. Neither of us know anything about growing hops and I have never used whole hops so it would be a bit of an experiment for both of us. First question is where do you get hop plants from and what variety to...

    Best commercial beer

What, this stuff? I think the pint in the ad has ideas above it's station. More like the pint that thinks it 3 gallons! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6n1hQdCdCP8

    How old are you?

My thoughts exactly. I'm about 12 and have been for decades.:thumb:

How did you get your user name.?

From the Stranglers song Hanging Around. Got the barley fever = under the influence. Seemed to fit well with the subject matter. Not that I would ever over indulge though!!

    You need hands??

It's even worse when they're on the phone hands free and can't even see who they're talking to!!

    Some free Inkbird as compensation!

Yes please! I could put a ITC 1000 to good use. Thanks.

    Noob question: My first brew

My first brew was with one of those Home Brew Depot kits, a bare minimum of equipment and no idea what I was doing. :wha: Mine also stopped bubbling after a couple of days and I though it was going to be a disaster. Turned out OK though. Not great but not too bad either. Definitely stick...

    Worst commercial beer

Worst thing I ever had was in Canada. Bud light lime. It was an affront to humanity and left me genuinely offended. Who would have thought Bud could be made any worse than it already was.

    Corkers

Thanks Guys, I liked the look of the Sanbri on mentioned by Vinotinto as it's all metal and should last forever. I found a decent looking one on BIN on ebay and so went for it. Thanks for the offer Jaffa91 but I doubt I'd have anything you would need in exchange. Cheers :thumb:

    Corkers

Can anyone advise me on a decent corker that doesn't cost a fortune? Had one of those cheap red plastic ones which split last time I used it. Any recommendations would be gratefully received. Cheers.

    Forum T Shirt.

Seem to have plunged headlong into the world of brewing at home so..... May well have the T-Shirt! And if there's a choice of colour......I'll have beer stained. :thumb:

    First AG, Tips for improving?

My first AG efforts were cloudy too. Still tasted good and that's what it's all about in my book. Cloudy beer is not bad beer. Tasty beer is good beer.

    All Grain Brewing System reviews.

Likewise. Wanted to do AG and looked at a lot of reviews. Saw nothing but good things about the GF so I went for it. No regrets.

    Brewferm 'Grand Cru' Review

After reading all the positive reviews about this I decided to give it a go. Used dark muscovado sugar from tesco in the hope it would add a bit of colour. So, 9lt batch in a 10lt FV, what could possibly go wrong? Fermentation was vigorous and despite a blow off tube it still blew the lid...

What is the best beer you've tasted abroad?

Indeed. On a hot summers day I'll quite happily quaff a lager but in winter a heavy porter would really hit the spot. Horses for courses and all that.

What is the best beer you've tasted abroad?

Ooh, and when we were in Canada, I really liked St Ambrose Oatmeal Stout.

What is the best beer you've tasted abroad?

I remember sitting in a bar in Turkey when we had just arrived on holiday drinking an Efes lager. Perhaps not the worlds best beer but it tasted pretty bloody good at the time. Sometimes it's not the "what" that counts, but it's the "where and when". Other than that, Westvleteren 12 at the abbey...

    New to UK

Now hang on a mo. I respect that younger people have got the hang of this new fangled metric system, but some of us are still happy to think in pounds and ounces and pints and gallons. So long as there all imperial ones. Pounds, shillings and pence is still a moot point.:thumb:
