What are you drinking tonight 2024.

This bottle of Porto 6 cost me £75. I entered, and won the visitors prize at a comp at Malone Golf Club yesterday. Green fees there are well over the ton, I got to play Belfast best parkland course in 22C sunshine (apologies to Belvoir and R.B. members if any are lurking). And I came away with...

What have you been smoking on bbq?

Dead simple. Portion up 1/2 kilo of mince into 8 balls. Thinly slice an onion. Smash the meat ball on a very hot griddle. Top it with a tonne of the onion slices and season before flipping. 1-2 minutes each side gives you a crispy exterior and a just cooked through middle. The key is getting...

What have you been smoking on bbq?

Normally I’m cooking cheap cuts for hours or even days, and even an easy steak involves prep time and attention to the sauces and accompaniments. This had to be the quickest prep and cook ever. Smash burgers, 5 minutes max to prep and less that to cook. Served with fried onions and some chips...

Happy Sunday folks. Time for a pre-BBQ pint.

Nothing so exotic, I’m getting them from an offie in Crossgar. https://www.jnwine.com/ Well, offie probably isn’t doing them justice. They’ve won more rewards than I could begin to list, and they deliver all over the British Isles. PS. I’m just a customer and not getting commission.

What are you drinking tonight 2024.

Ohh, this is an absolute beast of a red. Brambly red fruit with huge graphite/tobacco overtones. I’m not sure I’ve had anything quite like it recently. It‘s a stunner. I suspect I should have put in a cellar for a while. Instead, I’m putting it to my head.

Oops, looks like I drank more of this last night than I thought 🤦 I‘m not a usually big fan of Aussie wines, but this is very good.

What are you drinking tonight 2024.

Mrs70 enjoyed her French ‘75 so much she’s having another. I, on the other hand, have opted for a Corpse Reviver No.2. Equal parts gin, Cointreau, Lillet Blanc and lemon juice served in a chilled Marie Antoinette that has been rinsed with Absinth. 5⭐️ highly recommended.

Quite oaky, but in a very good way. I’ll be buying more of this.

That would have stumped me. I like the cryptics because they give you the answers and tell you how to spell them. I’m a bit behind this week, here’s my progress so far with Thursdays offering, the NW corner was particularly enjoyable.

What are you drinking tonight 2024.

Another Dungarvan beer from the lucky bag. Tart aroma followed by ‘Band Aid’ phenols in abundance. Looks like there’s an infected batch on the go. I’ve emailed them.

What are you drinking tonight 2024.

It’s BBQ time so beer is compulsory. One from a birthday lucky bag, chosen by a fellow beer hound who knows my tastes.

What are you drinking tonight 2024.

A very fruity Hungarian Red, to be served slightly chilled on a hot day, according to the guy in Nicholson’s Wine. He wasn’t wrong, it’s amazing.

What are you listening to tonight.

It turns out my musically diverse daughter has been listening to a lot of flamenco guitar recently. So I dropped this pair on her. They made their name busking flamenco versions heavy metal classics on Grafton St in the early noughties. I saw them in Vicar St around then. This is one of their...
