Thanks Terry. I could have done that if I hadn't got bored yesterday and used the kit yeast to make my first cider attempt!! The bumpf for the yeast I found says it can go as low as 15 but I didn't want to risk it not kicking off. I'll bear your tip in mind for the next lager I try athumb..

Been in primary for about 2 days now so a long way to go, planning to lager it for as long as possible. As its my first one it freaked me out a bit but glad it's ok. Is there any way to prevent it that anyone knows?

Pitched at 20c, temp set to 16.5 and its hovering between that and 17ish. No airlock activity yet but the bucket lid has domed slightly and looks like a krausen is forming so fingers crossed

I'm taking the info with a pinch of salt, made a 2L starter with it and pitched it at 20°c and set fridge to 16.5°c. No activity after 12ish hours, gonna check after breakfast and see what's what. Fingers crossed

I've got a mix of shop bought and recycled bottles, mostly crown cap ones but some swing tops too. Gutted that you can't buy grolsch anymore but what can you do? :confused.: got my first bottles from ebay, 25 quid posted for 50 brown 500ml, didn't think that was too bad

Next day update: Looks a hell of a lot better and a more convincing colour. Does this look like a good starter a day in?
