    Afternoon all just finished my first lager brew using the grainfather. The only part I struggled with was getting the wort down to 12c the pitching temp for the yeast with the counterflow chiller It just stuck at 20c any suggestions ?

    Correct I am keeping an eye on the BG/GU ratio. The mash efficiency has an impact on the amount of hops added to reach the desired IBU and BG/GU ratio

    Good morning all, When conducting a brew do you calculate the Mash efficiency so that you can adjust the hop additions to the boil to reach the desires IBU or do you not bother and go with the recipe as is?

    the OG was 1.070 When I tested the refractometer this morning it was in line with the hydrometer give or take a point or two in the water 1.000 and sugar solution of 1.120 When I tested the wart the hydrometer gave 1.010 The refractometer was 1.040

    My first brew for two years is bubbling away nicely and the gravity is falling nicely to the point where I added the dry hops last night in a bag.     Yes I managed to get the wort into the FV as I had the ball and spring already removed. Been out buying some stainless steel hose clip today to secure in place ready for next brew. Have been looking at the false bottom but not sure if it worth it?

    Tasted a small sample of this today and tasted and looked ggod. I thought I had a pack of yeast in the hosue but couldnot find it so I habe bottled primed it today fingers crossed for carbonation.

    I managed to fix the sparge heater there a rest button underneath which I found out of pure luck. So I put a brew on late yesterday afternoon and the fermenter was bubbling away nicely this morning.
