    CO2 help

I've never used gas for carbonation before and all of the different types of bottles and cartridges has me confused. First off, does any that I get have to have a certain kind of fitting? I've seen screwed and blank cartridges. What is the minimum size I would need to force carbonate a 19l...

    Bottles or kegs or barrel

So you can still keg it and carbonate it, then transfer to bottles, etc 2 weeks later for refrigeration?

    Bottles or kegs or barrel

Just to clarify as I'm going to purchase a couple of cornies...there's no point kegging my brew without a kegerator eh? Just bottle this first brew until I can get a fridge set up for the kegs?

Looking to buy 2 corny kegs

Will probably order reconditioned ones online tomorrow, just wondering if anyone in West/Central Scotland has any they want to sell.

    3rd brew.

I reckon we have similar tastes and I've been wondering what else to try, so I'll dip my toes into the IPAs with that I think athumb.. I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy it, some of the IPAs I've seen look tremendous and I'll try any beer once (and finish them all!). Plenty other wheat beers to try...

What was your first step towards AG?

For those who started on the kits. For a newbie like me who is still waiting to bottle their first kit, what equipment did you buy first to make the jump?

    3rd brew.

Apologies Damien (my Grandsons name!) I spoke to you before about your Cooper's kit, I'm sure I followed your recipe for it cos of your review. 180g of priming sugar if I remember right? wink... Definitely trying the MJ version next with the enhancer, and maybe a half kilo of spray malt lol...

    3rd brew.

Very nice, have you got the Wheat on the go yet? I think I'll be trying that for my 2nd brew (first try is the Cooper's wheat).

How long does active fermentation last in a wheat beer kit?

The bowl for my blow-off tube has been bubbling away regularly for the past 24 hours. It sounds like an absolute racket when our wee flat is quiet :laugh8: How long does this phase of the fermentation usually last, and how long after it starts to settle should I begin taking gravity readings...

Beginners Guide to Water Treatment (plus links to more advanced water treatment in post #1)

I'm new to all of this (starting my first homebrew kit (Cooper's wheat beer) in a couple of days) so I'm wondering if this is all something I need to be worrying about? I managed to source the latest test results for my area. I tend to think that our water quality is pretty good up here in...

    Flavouring a beer

I'll be using the Cooper's kit for my first attempt, would I just use the orange and coriander flavoured boiling water to make my initial mix with the thick malt mixture that comes in the tin, plus the 1kg of spray malt? Then only add cold water on top of this initial 2-3l of boiling wort?

    Benefits of a 2nd FV?

I bought one of the little bottler taps, but is there a reason that can't be attached to the tap on the 1st FV? Is it to do with the sediment at the bottom of the 1st FV, that might hinder the flow or cause the yeast, etc to come out in to the bottle?

    Flavouring a beer

I read a huge thread about brewing the Cooper's wheat beer but I have some general questions about brewing wheat beer, and adding flavour. If I read correctly, some people boiled the orange zest and coriander seeds in a pot, then added the boiled water and it's contents to the wort. Some...

    Benefits of a 2nd FV?

I've been reading through many threads, watching videos, etc and I've seen that a lot of people use a 2nd FV to transfer to, after the first stage fermentation is complete. I know about batch priming...is that the only/main benefit of transferring to another FV before bottling? I'll be...

    Hello from Coatbridge

Thanks for the welcome folks. I took the plunge on that starter kit, it's too good a bargain to miss. Got the bottling wand and 2 crates of bottles to get me started too. @damienair I decided just to stick with the yeast that comes with it, hope you don't mind if I pick your brain as I go...

    Hello from Coatbridge

Hi folks, I've never done a home brew at any time before. I'm the owner of a PD machine and ultimately I'm hoping to be able to run home brew through it. I've decided to just start with a basic starter kit and I'm hoping to make some wheat beer. Is this kit sufficient to get me started...
