    Help! Wine hasn't cleared.

Yes, I think I will. I also fancy the Apple/Pear/Grape juice that someone mentioned on the WOW thread. Pear wine, gotta be delicious, hasn't it? I worked out that 1 gallon would cost less than a fiver, although I'd have to spend more than that to get larger quantities of the ingredients, so I...

    Help! Wine hasn't cleared.

I have just checked a glassful of this and we are back on track! :). Wine is very clear in a glass now and tastes great! There was a definite sharp tang before, which I thought was probably CO2. Phew! I think I am going to have a go at a WOW variant now. Something to drink while this...

    Help! Wine hasn't cleared.

Yes, thanks, I have done so and put it somewhere cool. How long should I give it before checking again? Andy

    Help! Wine hasn't cleared.

I stirred it all in the same direction, that is, the drill was going clockwise all the time, but I was moving the stirrer about a lot, even though the wine was all spinning fast in a clockwise 'whirlpool'. So, is it a good idea to do another degassing cycle now, or is it too late? Thanks Andy

    Help! Wine hasn't cleared.

    H. All. I expect that's quite a common thread title! I am a fairly experienced brewer, although I am making my first wine in 2 years. I have a selection Barolo 30 bottle kit and I have got to the stage where the wine should be clear and I rack it. But the wine was not clear. When I opened...

30 bottle Barolo - Selection or Beaverdale?

Hi all This is rather an old thread but I thought it best to add to it rather than start a new one. I wanted to add some info but also to ask a question. I thought I'd add my review of the kenridge kit:- For the price it was very good, it was about a third less than the selection kit. For the...

What is the shelf life of Campden Tablets

I think mine were 2004! I'll just buy some more, I think. Don't want to waste 5 gallons of wine for the sake of a couple of quid! Andy

What is the shelf life of Campden Tablets

Hi all I have some old campden tablets and on the pack it says best used within 6 months of purchase. Is this essential? Do they go off? Cheers Andy

Kenridge 5 gallon kit - how to get rid of C02

Ah, thanks guys. So, it would seem that very vigorous stirring or shaking is the order of the day. I wasn't sure how vigorous to be, as the instructions only said to stir for a minute, 6 to 8 times over 2 days. I started by stirring the first 2 days but got fed up of re-sterilising and...

Kenridge 5 gallon kit - how to get rid of C02

Hi all I have a Kenridge 5 gallon Barolo kit on the go. I am at the 'de-gassing stage' which consists of adding a sachet of Potassium Metabisulphate and stirring regularly for 2 days, according to the instructions. How long does this REALLY take? It's only the third day so I'm not worried...

    Rice and Sake

I have a VERY old book of wine recipes and Rice & Raisin wine was the first thing I made, if I remember correctly. In fact, I still have one of my first bottles from 1987. Don't suppose it's anything better than paint stripper now  If you need the recipe, let me know, but I'm sure...

Kenridge Classic kits - how long does the wine last?

Hi I recently purchased a Kenridge Classic Barolo 30 bottle kit and I am just starting it. The notes say that the wine will be drinkable at the bottling stage and will keep for 6 months. Previously, I have made the 'selection' kits and the advice I was given on those is to wait AT LEAST 6...

30 bottle Barolo - Selection or Beaverdale?

Hiya. I'm new here, although I've been making wine for a while, around 15-20 years, I reckon. After a long break I've decided to make some more as we're drinking more wine nowadays and it's hard to find a decent bottle for under a fiver at the supermarket. The last batches I made were the 30...

    Hello, New member from Bedfordshire

Hi all I'm Andy from Ampthill, Beds. I've been making wine on and off for probably 15 years, although I haven't made anything for about 5 years. Looking to get back into it though, so I'll be posting a question in the relevant forum. Cheers  Andy
