M44- should I check for signs of life?

Thanks Terry- if I ever use this yeast again I will rehydrate I think. I also only pitched about 3/4 of a packet of M44 as it's only a small batch- this was the same with all my other batches using US-05 which fermented out no problems- so I will have a look later and if nothing appears to be...

    Wort chilling advice

makes my timescale about right then as my pot is 15L so about double time to cool, very roughly. The other reason I don't use a wort chiller is we have one of those new fangled taps and not sure they fit. I think next time I'll also chill my top up water, say 2L, and pour into the FV to help...

M44- should I check for signs of life?

Hi all After some advice / reassurance. I brewed up a a 12L batch of a Galaxy based IPA on Sunday, BIAB. Popped it into fermenting fridge, Inkbird 308 set to 19c with 0.5 differential for heating / cooling, after pitching M44 at 22.9c. I knew of the main downside of this yeast when I chose...

    Wort chilling advice

I'm doing the same sort of batch sizes via BIAB and sink cooling. I didn't check really how long it took to cool my last lot but I am guessing it is about the same timescale as yours. Batch was about 12L and I don't use / want an immersion chiller as on a water meter. I stirred mine constantly...

Another Newbie AG - First IPA

I am a new AG BIAB brewer myself so I will leave giving advice to people better qualified to do so, but wanted to say good luck. My first AG brew was a Maris Otter / Citra job, and it was good enough to rekindle all my excitement to brew, when I hadn't for a long time. Looks like you have a...

    First AG porter recipe help

Thanks again for the detailed info. Nearest Waitrose is a bit away which is not really too much of an issue- I enjoyed the London Porter as a change from the hoppy IPA's I now prefer but it was more a novelty than wanting to buy loads of it. I'll have a look at yeast options when I order the...

    First AG porter recipe help

Fullers Porter was and remains one of my favourite porters- I had a bottle of it a few months back in a Fullers pub in Bristol which was my first in ages. I don't actually have any of the ingredients at all yet so free to mess about with recipe- what yeast woud better suit then do you think? I...

    Walk before run?

I had done some kits but my first AG brew was a Single Malt Citra IPA using BIAB and it was decent, using the guidance in the thread which @Slid just provided a link to. It's a lot easier than you think it's going to be!

    First AG porter recipe help

Hi all I have a galaxy IPA to brew next but I am trying to plan ahead for future brews with some time on my hands. I used to exclusively drink dark beers and so would like a go at a porter, the only one I have ever done was the Festival Kit which was okay but very early in my brewing. I have...

    Buying Beer Online

I've used Beerwulf a couple of times but stopped when stuff I was buying (Duvel Citra for £1.89 mainly) became available cheaper in supermarkets. You can get some belting Belgian stuff on there though. I'm less than halfway through an order of 12 cans fom DEYA, however I am sorely tempted by...

Q for the no chill brewers

Interesting... Thanks Foxy... Not sure where / how I need to work on mashing and sparging then but looks like that is where the issue likely is then...

Q for the no chill brewers

I have a no chill question I wonder if someone can help with. I am just starting to drink a Citra / Cascade BIAB IPA which I used no chill for. I am totally happy with how it turned out- in fact probably best beer I ever made and certainly best of my AG's so far- taste's great, good Citra aroma...

Anyone else restrict their alcohol intake by doing this...?

I tend to homebrew for the enjoyment of the process rather than relying on it for beer per se. I am drinking an AG IPA at the moment which is good other than chill haze because I no chilled; but I also have some cans from DEYA in, treating myself due to workng at home for foreseeable future. I...

AG Brew No.2 Pale and Hoppy

This sounds good. I have never brewed with Simcoe though have had a few beers with it including a Deya Something Good 3 last night (which is Simcoe and Amarillo). Simcoe is on my "to brew with" list. Citra is my favourite hop by far; I am just starting to drink an AG (BIAB) Cascade / Citra IPA...

Hello from A Welshman now living in Scotland

Hello from a Welshman living in Wales still! You'll like it here, people are great and extremely helpful. In terms of all grain-you can start as small as you like. I have just produced the best beer I ever have made using a 15L stockpot and BIAB method. Not to say I won't get electronic...
