What are you drinking tonight 2024.

Decided it was time to test my Tribute clone brew. Wife kindly bought a bottle of Tribute so I could do a side-by-side evaluation. Visually it's easy to see the real thing ... Tastewise mine is a near miss. Still very drinkable but not quite the same. I'll brew it again

    My new (complicated) fermentation vessel

After five years or so of using a plastic lidded fermentation bucket and brewing highly hopped NEIPAs on a regular basis I decided to replace my old bucket fermenter with something a bit better. The new fermenter had to: Have an airtight lid Have a large opening to facilitate cleaning Have a...

    Dry hopping techniques

I dry hop with loose pellets in the fermenter. I strongly recommend the use of a brew fridge for "controlling" fermentation temperature but also to cold crash before transfer. I find after 3-4 days at 3C everything drops to the bottom of the fermenter. Up until now I've used a bucket fermenter...

    Unscented Oxy

Thanks @peebee . I think with my brewing schedule 25kg bag would be a bit over the top. Looked on the bay and 1kg costs around £10. Think I'll explore the B&M option.

    Unscented Oxy

In the past I’ve used Vanish unscented Oxy cleaner. This is no longer available and the supermarket Oxy are all scented as far as I can see. If you’re an Oxy user, what do you use?

Very Little Hop Flavour in a Hoppy Beer!

Hop schedule looks fine. If I were brewing this beer I’d delay adding the Aurora hops to 30 mins as this is what’s providing the bitterness. Also, you could try adding the 0 mins hops when the boiled wort has cooled to 80C.

Filtering corny keg into another corny

I'm a fan of floating dip tubes. I have one in my fermenter as well so after cold crashing the beer is drawn off from the top down, minimising the risk of transferring any drops to the keg

Very Little Hop Flavour in a Hoppy Beer!

What were the hop timings? I stopped adding hops early in the boil as it resulted in a bitter not hoppy beer.

    dry hop methods & oxidation

I'm in the process of making a new fermentation vessel which is proper air tight, has a large opening, includes my design of trapdoor dry hoppers and magnetic dip tube. Keeps me busy 😂

    dry hop methods & oxidation

Yes, only I made my own version using polycarbonate sheet and a float ping-pong ball... You can see it clinging to the side of the bucket. PTFE coated magnet on the inside and a standard magnet on the outside.

    dry hop methods & oxidation

Hi @ghocking . I've modified my fermentation bucket to have a magnetic floating dip tube. During fermentation, dry hopping and cold crash the float and the end of the dip tube are held above the brew keeping them clear of any crud/trub. To transfer the finished beer to my PB the float is...
