    Has fermentation stalled?

Hi All I currently have the Youngs APA on the go, it's been bubbling away nicely for 5 days. I noticed that all the water on the airlock was on one side so I decided to undo the lid (release pressure), take out the airlock and fill it so there was water on both sides up to the middle. I don't...

    20 l cooler for sparging?

    Haha! You may be right!

    20 l cooler for sparging?

Might grab a cheap 13l pot and boil it twice. I've heard that fish tank pumps can work for pumping into the GF but I don't know which one to get. I imagine they can't all deal with near boiling water.

    20 l cooler for sparging?

Was thinking of various pots, kettles etc until I reach the required volume. Just couldn't justify 80 odd quid on the GF sparger

    20 l cooler for sparging?

Hi all I'm looking for a decent 20l-30l insulated cooler to use mainly for sparging with the Grainfather. Anyone have any recommendations? I have no idea if all coolers can deal with boiling water. Cheer!

Grainmaster etc Vs 3 tier system

Thanks to everyone for your advice. I've ordered the GF and copious amounts of grain, hops, yeasts etc. The AG fun starts now! P.S I didn't order the GF sparger, reckon I'll boil water in pans and add to a 20l cooler. I mean, I've got to do some work right? :laugh8:

    GF sparger or standard boiler?

Yeah, I know what you mean. I've also heard that a fish tank pump can be used to pump from wherever to the grainfather. No idea which one would be suitable though.

    GF sparger or standard boiler?

Surely it would work with just a a couple of kettle boils and a couple of big pans on the stove. Would be half the price of the GF sparger and you can use it for family trips in the summer.

    GF sparger or standard boiler?

I guess I was just thinking I'd fill up a glass jug several times.

    GF sparger or standard boiler?

Thanks aamcle, then at least I can use the cooler for other things. Are all insulated coolers able to take boiling water?

Which grains as a starting point?

When we talk about 'efficiency' are merely talking about how much beer produce per gram of grain?

    GF sparger or standard boiler?

Hi guys Very, very soon I'll be purchasing the Grainfather. Rather than invest the 80 odd quid for the GF sparger I thought it might be more prudent to invest the same in something that could be multi purpose. If I bought a standard 20L gas boiler with tap and thermometer would it do the same...

Which grains as a starting point?

Could be interesting to try both malts without any other difference in ingredients . Thanks for the info!

Which grains as a starting point?

Guess I was thinking that 25kg would last 5 brews, but I know nothing tbh! :) I've been researching and it seems that for American IPAs the 2 row equivalent would be weyermann pale ale malt. They come in 5.5-7.5 EBC and 3/5-5 EBC. What does that mean?

Which grains as a starting point?

I wonder if someone can help me with a couple of questions before I go and order everything. 1. If I order 25kg of Maris Otter, should I order it crushed? 2. Do I really need a crusher? 3. Is there a type of Maris Otter that's superior? Thanks for any help!

Which grains as a starting point?

Yes, I intend to buy the Greg Hughes book. I might grab a couple of clone AG packs to get started. In terms of recipes there seems to be a few different avenues, Grainfather, beersmith, brewersfriend. I don't really know which one is best. Also have no idea how you put the recipes into...

Which grains as a starting point?

I think I'd like to nail a few brews first in order to have a decent stock, then maybe in the summer I'll delve deeper and try to get an understanding of the different the types of hops, yeasts ands grains and what they bring to the table. At the moment I'm a complete novice so just want to...

Which grains as a starting point?

Hi All, I'll be switching to all grain soon. Going for the grainfather! As I now live in France I'd like to minimise postage costs and order enough grains, hops etc for a few months. As a fan of IPAs, ambers and british ales such as summer lightening, badger etc are there certain 'go to' grains...

    Youngs American IPA

Had a couple of pints of AIPA last night. Muuuuuch better! More carbonation than a week ago (that's 2 weeks carbing @19 deg and 1 week in garage @ 8 deg) and the bitterness doesn't hang around anymore. Really decent pint! My only complaint with this kit is that it's super strong. I think mine...

Hop bag to filter when racking?

My racking pump has a black thingy on the end which I imagine is supposed to filter but I can't see how. I still don't really know how to use it. Do I just push it down into the trub? Last time around I had quite a lot of sediment going into 2nd FV. This time I'd like to not use a 2nd FV but I...
