    Fermzilla Allrounder Jacket

I'm rather embarrassed to admit that I hadn't thought of that! Definitely going to give it a go when the brew fridge is empty.

Brewfather profile for Brewzilla and Pilsner malt

I don't think it's that pilsners need a lower pH - it's that lighter malts don't lower the pH as much as darker malts so more adjustment is needed to bring the pH down to target (I generally aim for 5.25). pH could definitely be a factor here though. Not sure it'd have that much effect on...

    Fermzilla Allrounder Jacket

Kind of (in my case at least). With the base inverted it fits but not with gas posts attached and certainly not with disconnects and a spunding valve attached.

Brewfather profile for Brewzilla and Pilsner malt

I'd be surprised if it was the crush. I've had both normal and fine crushed pilsner malt from TMM and, if anything, got slightly better efficiency with the fine. All using a brewzilla. As far as I'm aware there's nothing about pilsner malt that would cause the issue either. I'm sure someone...

    What did you brew today?

Just got today's brew in the fermentor. It's a pilsner with huell melon. 93% pilsner malt and 7% munich for colour and a bit of malt goodness. First time using my grain mill and efficiency has gone through the roof. Expected an SG of 1.047 but got 1.052 with an extra litre of wort in the...

    Malt Miller Grain Mill

Or rather the board they sell to attach their mills to. Just a bit of a PSA for anyone looking to buy one - they don't provide the bolts needed to attach the board to the mill! To be fair to them, they do state this on the site but I'm sure I'm not the only one to see this after searching...

    Possible infection

I don't usually use a starter for dried yeast. I only did one here as I'd ordered the kolsch yeast based on lallemand's pitch rate for their verdant strain. Turned out the kolsch needed nearly twice as much so, rather than delay the brew day, I made up the starter. I'll be honest though - I...

    Possible infection

Nothing unusual about the mash. All grain at start (90% pilsner, 7% carapils, 3% wheat), 60 mins at 65°c, 10 mins at 75°c. Not that it matters but it's a David Heath recipe. Fermentation temp was based on an inkbird probe attached to the side of the vessel. It was fairly well insulated...

    Possible infection

Just to follow up on this, while it may not have been an infection something went wrong with this beer. Despite 4 weeks of lagering and a few weeks in the keg it's still very hazy and, more annoyingly, there's a distinct off flavour - I'd say bananas. It's drinkable but a far cry from what I...

    Time to Upgrade?

I might have been lucky but the NEIPA I brewed was fermented in a bucket and turned out fine. That said, I now have the equipment to ferment under pressure and do a closed transfer and I'll do both on my next NEIPA. For me the main advantage is the closed transfer though. If you are bottling...

    What did you brew today?

Opted for an IPL as my first attempt at pressure fermentation. Brew day went well. Got 78% efficiency from my brewzilla so really chuffed with that - normally get around 70%. Followed David Heath's advice on stirring in the grains very thoroughly and paid closer attention to pH. Went for 47%...

    Damaged CO2 regulator

Cheers for all the help guys. The regulator seems to be working okay without the high pressure gauge so I've got a bit of time to source a replacement. I'll definitely look into ways to secure the canister. I think my heart stopped for a few seconds when it went over.

    Damaged CO2 regulator

Yeah, that's pretty much it other than the nice little pictures I've got on mine to give an idea of when to replace. Sadly out of stock though. There are gauges on eBay that say they are for argon but I'm assuming a pressure gauge is a pressure gauge regardless of what gas it's measuring?

    Damaged CO2 regulator

Okay, just done a daft thing and knocked over my co2 bottle by moving the keg it was attached to. It landed on its side completely destroying the guage on the regulator that tells you how full the bottle is. There was no sudden escaping of gas and I can't hear anything leaking out so I don't...

    Possible infection

Taken a sample and other than it fermenting lower than I expected it seems okay. Just smelt boozy and tasted clean and slightly malty. Picture was taken after I took the sample so it's disturbed the foam a bit - does seem to have lost some of the scummy appearance though. Think it's probably...

    Possible infection

I've had a kolsch fermenting at 17°c for the past 10 days. Haven't really paid a huge amount of attention to it until today. Only checked on it today as I'm starting ramping the temperature up over the next few days before cold crashing/lagering. I do know that the krausen dropped after day 3...

    new ispindel!

It did come with everything it's meant to. I just didn't do my research before ordering. Entirely my fault but wanted to give others a heads up as it would be easily done given how many people are selling the kits.

    new ispindel!

Got my kit out again to look at assembling it. Got halfway through the instructions and realised I hadn't got a clue how to finish it off (thankfully no solder used by this point). Did a bit of research as most claim it's an easy project and I don't like to think of myself as an *****. Turns...

    new ispindel!

I hind sight I should have got mine ready built. Ordered it in kit form and it's still sat in the packaging waiting to be assembled some 3 months later. Daft thing is, when it arrived I put it together to make sure everything was there but I didn't get the soldering iron out to finish the job.

    What happened to my volume?

The settings I'm using are 3l/hour boil off, 0.8l per kg for grain absorption and 1l for system loss. I've had brews come in a little short before so it may be that the 4l "loss" is a combination of all the above being slightly off plus the hop absorption, some loss from taking out the grain...
