Beer you just don't like/can't drink

For me it's got to be Fosters, Carling, Bud, actually that whole category of tasteless devils p**s that we affectionately refer to as 'training lager'.

Seasonal Forum Competition - November 17

I think this is a great idea. I've never used any fruit or spices in my brews so this could be a good excuse to get creative.

Brew fern Beer Brew 25 half price.

I've just come across this for anyone interested in a all in one system. http://www.geterbrewed.com/brewferm-beer-brew-25-combo-pack/

    Going Electric

I went for the standard kettle element - purely for ease of set up. Cut a 40mm hole, screw it in, job done.

    Headless Bitter

You could always try the syringe trick. I think I first read it on a post by @Myqul I'm currently drinking a brown ale that's well carbed but has very little head. Just suck up 10ml with a syringe (I use an unused ink cartridge refil syringe) and squirt it back into your pint. You'll get a...

    Going Electric

I use a 2.4kW element from Brew Builder in my 33 Litre BK and have never had any problems with it. I ended up building a voltage controller so I could turn it down as once it gets going, it doesn't half boil! I also insulated my boiler with 2 layers of radiator reflector, (about £3 from...

    Kegging

As Leon said, I just treat it the same as bottles. 2 weeks warm, 2 weeks cold. After you've pulled a few pints you'll notice it becomes slower to pour as the pressure drops. Once this happens screw in a CO2 charge and the pressure will increase again. Just repeat that step as necessary.

    Amber Ale

Planning a brew tomorrow, I've been wanting to do an amber for a while now so I'm planning on this, based on DIY Dog #3, The Physic. I've subbed the dark crystal for a bit of roasted barley and the Amarillo for Cascade - just because that's what's available. 20 Litres OG: 1.054 (75% BHE) FG...

    Kegging

I know some people don't get on well with pressure barrels, but if it's for a one off party that's the route I'd go. You can get one from Wilko for £30 and a box of CO2 charges for about a fiver. That's a much cheaper and simpler set up than a Corny. (Although if it's something you'll use...

    hop additions

+1 for Fuggles and East Kent Goldings. I always use at least one or the other in my stouts.

Why I can't drink craft beer anymore.

Cheers Terry, I had a look over that list a while back, although thankfully I've never had a reaction to any foods. (Let's hope it stays that way!) I've had confirmation from the brewery that no sulphites or findings are used. The fresh Rosemary and dried lemon balm are used in the boil but...

Why I can't drink craft beer anymore.

I'm as sure as I can be. The symptoms started the same as my previous reactions and within the right time frame from my first mouthful. I'm going to contact them again and specifically ask about sulphites and finings. I was under the same impression re campden, but I even taking the lid of a...

Why I can't drink craft beer anymore.

Apparently not. Calcium chloride was the only water treatment used and I regularly use that myself. Some form of medical probing is the next step I suspect.

Why I can't drink craft beer anymore.

So, funny story. I'm a musician and was lucky enough on Saturday night to be playing a wedding in a brewery. Best job in the world and that... As is the way with weddings everything was running behind so we decided to hit the bar in the meantime. I've been to this brewery a few times before and...

Another 'whats left in the cupboard' ale.

I'll have a go at this one at some point. A bit different to what I usually make, but I do like a pint of Brains. I was working down in Aberystwyth a couple of weeks ago and was gutted they didn't have it on tap!

Another 'whats left in the cupboard' ale.

I actually bought those hops for a Sierra Neveda clone I did a few months ago. Turned out very nice indeed. Cheers for that link @Dutto very interesting reading. I ended up using Admiral EKG Cascade and Chinook. It smells amazing to hopefully it'll taste as good.

Another 'whats left in the cupboard' ale.

Cheers guys. I've done a couple with both Magnum and Admiral and they've turned out pretty good. I reckon I'm gonna go for @Sadfields citrus suggestion. I'll do a brewday post tomorrow.

Another 'whats left in the cupboard' ale.

I'm planning on getting a brew on tomorrow (only my 3rd this year!) I was planning a simple bitter with Fuggles and EKG, but having just looked in the freezer I've found some hops I'd forgotten about. (Win.) I don't want to go just throwing random hops in for the sake of it so I thought I'd...

Hey Druncan, I might be a bit late to the party on this one, but is this still available?

    Hello again

As I've been away from the forum (and brewing full stop) for a few months I though I'd stop by and say hello again. :thumb: I've only managed 1 brew this year due to work and other boring reasons but I'm now setting aside more time for rewind and foruming. Hope you haven't missed me too much.
