    Co2 - Where from?

"Air Products" in Aberdeen might be a good bet. Can't Imagine they would be cheap though.

    Best. Band. Ever.

Tesseract, can't beat a bit of prog metal whilst brewing! Best albums are Altered state and Polaris. https://youtu.be/O-hnSlicxV4 If I'm in the mood for something a little less melodic and more aggressive then Periphery tick the box nicely.

    Pilsner

Hersbrucker is probably your best bet, if not give mount hood a go. I would say no more than 20g four days before bottling. I would advise against Lagering in bottles if you're dry hopping as you'll lose any of the kick by the time you've stored it for two months or so. If you lager it in...

    Isle of Wight beer?

Okay , for anyone that was interested I had a few pints this evening, all of which were average. We are staying in in East Cowes. I had a pint of Yates at the Prince of Wales and it had turned, it tasted like vinegar. I had a reasonable, but still average pint of Goddard's Fuggle at a place...

Home Brew Competition - March 17

Thank you very much, the feedback will be very valuable! I'm chuffed to have come second, thanks Alan for Judging. I'll get the recipe up on friday, as I'm on the Isle of Wight this week with work. If anything, I'd mash it a little higher next time. Again massive thanks! I love knowing what...

    Diacetyl issue with pilsner brew

Usually I would suggest that it could be Caramalt of some discription, as people can get the two confused. However your 60 min boil may well indicate that you have a DMS problem. rather than diacetyl. Diacetyl is often described as buttered popcorn, DMS is also described as creamed corn. So...

    Diacetyl issue with pilsner brew

Are you sure its diacetyl and not DMS? You only did a 60 mins boil with what looks like a 100% Pils grain bill.

    Hop plants/rhizomes - growing report

Prima Donna is showing some signs of life. That shoot was on it when I got it, but it only recently let rip with the leaves. Vertically it's not really moved tbh, I Imagine most of its energy is going toward growing some roots

    Isle of Wight beer?

I'm over on the Isle of Wight Monday to Thursday helping to commission and snag the new Chain ferry that goes between east and west Cowes. Does anyone know where I can get a good pint over there? We are staying over in East Cowes. Cheers!

Also still in the fermenter. Bottling next weekend, hopefully it will have dropped a couple of points by then.

    Volume way off!

Okay, so that's 10L gone, between the boil and grain absorbtion. So, we're down to 20L. Only 3 more litres. Add another 2-3 Litres or so for dead space losses and your down to 17L

    Volume way off!

Grain will absorb approx 1.04 times its own weight in water and whole leaf hops will absorb around 12ml/gram. Those are the figures that I use in the Grizzly Brews Excel brew calculator and I consistently hit volume targets. Other than that I can't offer any advice as I'm not familiar with the...

    Volume way off!

Give me a grain quantity in kg and hop quantity in grams( if you're using whole leaf) please

    Volume way off!

It depends on your boil time, which should be 1hr for most brews ( 90 minutes for recipes containing a high percentage of pilsner malt). I have read that the grainfather boils off between 2l and 2.5l/hour.

Don't drink them too cold :0 The Belgian character will be all but lost!! It's a beautiful evening for it, a huge shame that there are only three entries :/
