What are you drinking tonight 2020.

My best brew to date. A wonderful pineappley-mango-smoothie DIPA clocking in at 9%. Will brew this one again for sure but might try it with kveik next time.

    pH Meter Recommendations

Anyone got any recommendations for pH meters? I dont really want to spend more than £50 and preferably would be looking to spend less than £25 if there are reasonable options available at that price point. I assume litmus paper isnt a good enough solution? :)

    Braumeister 20 Low Mash Efficiency

I think there is probably a degree of error in the volumes since I dont have a very accurate way of measuring volumes within the braumeister but it looks pretty close judging by the tick marks. I ended up with almost exactly 5gal into the fermenter after trub loss etc. which is my target. For...

    Braumeister 20 Low Mash Efficiency

I am not controlling these three things at all currently. I'm London so i know the water is pretty darn hard but I haven't been testing pH or doing anything to it other than half a campden tab. Maybe it's worth getting a pH meter, thermometer and grain mill to start controlling these factor.

    Braumeister 20 Low Mash Efficiency

Invariably yes it does taste nice, although I am probably not going to win any awards from BJCP judges. :)

    Braumeister 20 Low Mash Efficiency

I've not been sparging recently. I've been following the no sparge method by having the entirety of the grain and malt pipe submerged. People were recommending this method to help with efficiency which is why I started doing it in the first place. I will try a conventional sparge again on my...

    Braumeister 20 Low Mash Efficiency

Hi folks, For the past 3 or 4 brews I've been experiencing poor mash efficiency (~67% apparently,) with my braumeister 20. I thought it might be due to approaching the limits of the malt pipe capacity so yesterday I tried to do a 6kg load in a double mash - 2 mashes of 3kg each. I ran a step...

    What did you brew today?

Nope, not a scooby although im guessing my grain bill was too big for my setup. Maybe the fine material from the adjuncts grains clogged up the mash a bit although I didn't notice that the pump was struggling. I did notice that the temperature was a bit erratic and unstable at the start of the...

    What did you brew today?

Today I brewed a failure. I call it "failure porter", to be drunk while feeling sad and grimacing a lot. Target OG: 1.070 Actual OG: 1.032 I am a sad potato.

    What did you brew today?

Hi, First post here and first brew in nearly 12 years. Kolsch smash is in the fermenter bubbling away nicely at 16°C. 4.5kg Pilsener 50g Hallertau @ 50min 25g Hallertau @10min Hit my OG target spot on at 1.050 and it looked nice and clear in the beaker. Slightly missed my volume...
