    The Real Pilsner Dilemma

8-14c is no problem for me, I was concerned about the amount of yeast required for a beer kit. Thanks a lot for clearing that up and for the link, that is going to be really useful -Jay

    The Real Pilsner Dilemma

Hi All, Bottling a Golden Ale today and I'm tempted to do my Pilsner 1 Can Kit straight afterwards. Two problems present themselves; Firstly, It's a Wilko 1-can kit with, from what I understand, an Ale-strain of yeast included Secondly, if I'm going to buy a yeast how much yeast (in grams) do...

    First Brew Ever.

All done! 42 beers bottled. Used demerara sugar to prime, Little Bottler was a real life saver. Small spillages, a few bubbles but the brew tastes gorgeous, everything was sterile so I am pretty doubtful I'll have any complications. Now we play the waiting game :drink: I actually bought all...

    First Brew Ever.

Bottling day! 49 bottles cleaned (one with a dodgy chunk out of it on the base, not going to risk it) took hour and a half; praise be unto the bottle tree! Batch priming it and using the Little Bottler, wish me luck gents :) -Jay

    First Brew Ever.

Just checked gravity today and had my first little taste in the trial jar :) it's at 1.008 now, which makes it 4.2% using the Forum's calculator. I will be bottling on Monday/Tuesday I think. Bought a second FV that came with a Little Bottler, so I will be batch priming and hoping everything...

    First Brew Ever.

Thanks Radio  Come Monday it will have been in the FV for 2 weeks. Might have to order a few bits and pieces online and wait for delivery, but I hope it shan't make too much difference. This be the lid from the Wilko starter pack (aka Basic keg) If one were to bottle half of ones...

    First Brew Ever.

I have got a very basic looking plastic keg that came in my Wilko home brew kit. I don't think it has this feature at all, but if I post a few pics of it tomorrow, would you mind telling me if it'll survive in it? Otherwise it's all going in the bottles :D Thanks, -Jay

Swing Stoppers and Sourcing the buggers

Well here they are! So, I was already getting a delivery for something else when the deliveryman for the swing stoppers trundles over with the massive box and throws it on the pavement in front of my door -- I nearly killed him. Loud clanking sound as it hit the pavement. Must not...

    First Brew Ever.

I have received a consignment of 50 brand spanking new swing tops from Leipzig in the post yesterday. F*cking delivery guy threw the box on the ground right in front of me  I nearly killed him! No breakages though (him or the bottles ) I am gonna leave it 'til next Monday to keg...

Swing Stoppers and Sourcing the buggers

Well I took the plunge and ordered 50 brown 500ml Swing Top's from World of Bottles. Will give a review on the company + product when I get them :)

Reckon the first attempt's going in the keg then. Not gonna spend hours bottling a possibly naff beer :(

    First Brew Ever.

Sadly, I can't control the temperature to any great extent due to my living arrangements. Is this going to adversely affect my brew, do you think?

could resist have a peak at the wort -- very surprised that the foam head has collapsed back, either yesterday or day before -- room temp has been, nominally, no lower than 22 C so maybe that has something to do with it. Either way, here's a pic of what I saw! -Jay

Swing Stoppers and Sourcing the buggers

Again, thanks for all the info guys. I live opposite a pub and have 3 more I could visit in 15 minutes total walking! So I will definitely be tapping them up for spare bottles at some point. I think for now I will order some of those cheap ones from World of Bottles! I was mainly concerned re...

Swing Stoppers and Sourcing the buggers

Hi all, So I'm very much considering bottling my first ever brew rather that using the much maligned plastic keg. So my question is twofold; Firstly, is swing top a bad idea for a first brew? Secondly, has anyone tried using World of Bottles? (Can't post link, too "spamy" for a new member...

Great! I played it safe and just left it as it was. Thank god for that. Time to do another journal video :) -Jay

    First Brew Ever.

Woke up ten minutes ago to find my wort looks like a gigantic pint :thumb: it looks like it's added about 2 pints of head on the top! Not sure whether or not to open it and check temp and hydro though...

    First Brew Ever.

Thanks lads! Always fancied my hand at it, and it was a lot of fun. The missus videoed me opening the kit and mixing it all up; perhaps I'll post it, if you're all up for a laugh :P I haven't added any sugar as it said it wasn't needed in this kit, so I'm guessing the Hops + Malt had sugar...

    First Brew Ever.

Hi all! On a whim, I today purchased a Wilko "beer makers deluxe pack" (who insisted on all lowercase?) and a Wilko Golden Ale. From what I've read, the Ale was a good choice! The apparatus, well that remains to be seen... Put it all together as per instructions, however, I did mix the yeast...
