    Whale Flipper update

Do you keep your beer at atmospheric pressure with a cask breather to keep air away from it, or what?

Now you just need a chainsaw and log splitter. And somewhere to store the logs under cover.

    Whale Flipper update

So how do you connect your Flipper pump to that? Cut off the original alloy spout somewhere and join the two with a bit of PVC tubing?

    Whale Flipper update

That is all very interesting. Could you post a photo of your Flipper spout set-up by any chance.

    Whale Flipper update

If you search for “Beer sparkler nozzles” you will find several alternatives, though none seem to give what thread they have. The photos show my Flipper in bits and the problem die-cast crank. It is a pain removing the pin holding it to the shaft, you can just get a pin punch in to start moving...

    Whale Flipper update

I think there is only one type, and they do say it is suitable for sea water. However having lived on a sea-going boat for three years I know what sea water does to things, and doubt the crank would fare any better than it does in beer. I also doubt that many people need a supply of sea water...

    Whale Flipper update

Three years ago I was very enthusiastic about using a Whale Flipper Mk IV caravan water pump as a mini beer engine. I have since discovered a shortcoming which I must bring to Member’s notice. Whilst most parts are beer compatible, there are some made from light alloy, and after about a year’s...

    Wood burners

Ours was made and fitted by local firm Dean Forge, and is one of the best things I’ve ever bought. It helps if you have a son who cuts up fallen trees for people, a wife adept at using an electro-hydraulic log splitter, and the nearest neighbour half a mile away.

    Gallstones, the enemy of homebrewing

Well it is a simple choice. Take the pill and lead a normal life, or don’t and hobble about in agony.

    Gallstones, the enemy of homebrewing

Gout is hereditary and my Dad suffered with it until he was prescribed some pills. One morning, out of the blue, I got out of bed and couldn’t put one foot down because of the pain. The doctor told me I had gout, and that I would have to take an Allopurinol 300gm pill every day for the rest of...

    R.I.P Thread.

My son and I saw Barry Cryer when the ‘I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue’ Roadshow was on in Plymouth. The other panellists were Miles Jupp, Tim Brooke-Taylor, and Jeremy Hardy the last two sadly also RIP. The date was February 16th 2015, which I remember well as the river, which flows past our place...
