I agree with Dr Mick; the goal is to make the berry shine in a beer, and if we end up with people all doing the same thing we're not going to learn much! I intend on using around 5kg of gooseberries as the main approach to this, but I'll be splitting the batch and doing some with a homemade...

    Keep the doctor away...

Check the rules! Many allotments don't allow trees on plots, as when the plotholder moves on they are a PITA to remove. Also, you'll find few cider varieties on dwarf stock. Without serious thinning you'll also find that fruiting will be biennial. Last year my orchard (which is small and...

I have a Beko fridge and it houses four cornys, with four door mounted taps.

It most certainly is. Get brewing!

A lot of the simple sugars will ferment, but there will be some residual sweetness. Most people will find it more than acceptable. I'm just over-sensitive to sweetness. If I use even 2 or 3 per cent Crystal Malt in a grain bill it ruins the beer for me; I can taste a cloying sweetness in the...

Cranberries can be sweet; too sweet for me. I think you need to slowly work your way up!

    Fermenation and secondary (2+2+2) problems.

I'd get a bigger fridge; they're cheap enough on popular auction sites, and then use a sealed fermenter. If you consider the costs of spoiled batches and bleach, it will be a cheaper route!

Is the red ale quite malty? If so the raspberries might clash. That said, there is a chance they might balance the malt well. It's an interesting idea. I reckon the forest fruits might be the better option.

    Boiler advice.

What's your budget? I have an old Burco boiler and a Brupak one, and both were good. However, since switching to a Buffalo 3kW induction hob and a stainless pot I wouldn't go back. It's fast, efficient and seriously easy to clean. You're looking at around £100 for the hob (never buy one at...

I've just brewed a pale ale using French Bierre de Garde yeast and Brett Trois, and I'll be interested in how the combination works with fruity flavours (it's been hopped with Ekuanot and Jester) so that might impact on my beer for this, but my current thinking is as follows. Blackberry porter...

I'd pretty much resigned myself to a Christmas brew and was already planning.., Well, I currently have crops of blackberries, elderberries, gooseberries and juniper berries, so the odds are I'll be using one of them. Just got to work through potential styles to see what will work!

FFS, someone pronounce time of death on this poll before it goes back to a draw! I was all for Berries but I need to plan my brew!

It could be argued that some berries fall into the flavours of Christmas, such as cranberries, but I doubt a beer using strawberries would present what are understood to be flavours of Christmas! I eat a banana every morning, including Christmas day, and I always have a smoked brisket ready at...
