    Dispensing from 2L PET bottles

Sounds like you had a good time! I have noticed that the sediment is becoming a lot more compact as time goes on which really helps.

    Dispensing from 2L PET bottles

I hadn't actually tried this method yet. Storing them upside down from the start worries me as you might get leaks, and turning them upside down a day before serving might not work as by this point the sediment is mostly compacted to the bottom. I did see these plastic "soda dispensers" as...

    Dispensing from 2L PET bottles

That's a good price on Tesco, might need to get a few more of them. Although they look like they have a fatter neck than the current Coopers bottles I have, I like the narrower neck as it helps to catch some of the sediment. I do save the 2L bottles for nights when I know I will be finishing...

    Dispensing from 2L PET bottles

If I do this will I lose all of the lovely fizz though? I guess this is why people use a secondary fermenter? which I didn't

    Dispensing from 2L PET bottles

Ah, maybe I should have mentioned I was partially thinking of my recent batch which happens to be lager which I have primed the bottles with sugar. There is quite a bit of sediment, around 1cm in a 2L bottle.

    Dispensing from 2L PET bottles

I did consider a syphon, not sure my guests would like it if I was sucking away at the tube before pouring them a pint :P But for myself, it sounds like a good option. Could create a special lid that has a tube passing through it with some kind of seal around it. Then just swap the lids over...

    Dispensing from 2L PET bottles

Hi, I have been storing some beer in 2L bottles as I only have limited amount of 500ml ones, and no keg as yet :( The problem I have is successfully getting the beer out without having a extremely cloudy pint :hmm: especially when returning the bottle to upright, before topping up again when I...

    Ideal temperature for conditioning

As I am new to all this, what do people do during the summer then if you don't have a spare keg fridge?

    Ideal temperature for conditioning

Hi, I was wondering what the ideal temperature was to condition beer. I know lager is supposed to be left at a cool temperature, but how about other types? I am worried as with the warmer weather approaching my current beer store (loft) gets pretty warm, around 30-35c at times and I don't want...

Brew number 3, Muntons Gold IPA

Hi, I am trying to decide what to brew next and I was looking at the Midas Gold, I see you are currently drinking it. Whats it like?

Commercially brewed beer - how long to condition

Does adding finings to beer make it condition faster or is it just to clear it? It doesn't seem that common on the forums to add finings to beer, am I right in thinking it is more of a practice in wine making?

Commercially brewed beer - how long to condition

Some interesting insight to how the bigger breweries do it, I must get myself on to some of them tours to see (taste) the action myself! Just wish I had more space to store beer (as I live in a small flat) so I could leave it and forget it. I have been putting it in the loft, but I would...

Commercially brewed beer - how long to condition

Interesting, so I guess if I wanted something that I could drink faster then having a lower OG and producing a lower alcohol beer should take less time to condition. Was think of trying the Wherry next, but then thought by the time it is ready it might be summer time and I like lager in the sun :)

Commercially brewed beer - how long to condition

Couldn't help thinking the other day whilst trying my hardest not to open my recently bottled Canadian Blonde how long commercially brewed beer takes from start to ready to be drunk. Whether it was true or not, I remember someone once told me that Fosters (Not real beer I know) was fermented...

    First TC - Bottled up

Yeah, think I might have over done it.. I started by putting sugar in the demijohn, but it wasn't tasting much sweeter. I then started getting into a bit of panic, stirring up all the sediment etc so just put sugar syrup in the bottles. Plus I had already bottled up 40 pints of lager so was...

    First TC - Bottled up

I did open a glass one I had as I was worried about it exploding. There was a slight hiss but nothing major. To feel the coke bottles they don't feel that pressurised, fairly easy to squeeze in a bit. No where near as firm as the lager I bottled up on the same day. So looks like it may have at...

    First TC - Bottled up

oh dear, yes I just chucked it all in at the same time. How long are you suppose to leave it? I didn't measure the sugar, but at a guess it was probably around 10-15 teaspoons in a 2 litre coke bottle.

    Next lager kit

Might have taken the reading wrong, but I think I did it twice. Didn't put any extra fermentable in (that I know of) used a 1KG Muntons beer enhancer which in hindsight wasn't the best option as it has now turned out a little darker than you would expect for a lager. But hopefully will be ok.

    First kit all done

Sounds promising, I just bottled up my Cooper Canadian lager today, tasted ok but hard to tell at this point. I am very impatient so will probably have a proper glass once it clears :)

    First TC - Bottled up

Hi, Bottled my first TC this morning... Had a sneaky taste and it wasn't too bad, the fact it was before 10am did feel a little wrong but oh well. Very sour, but it certainly tasted like cider. FG was around 1.000, my plan was to stop it early to retain some of the sweetness but I must have...
