Woodfordes Wherry Kit straight to Corny Keg from FV ?

I have just done exactly this with a Wherry, should be fine. Although you might want to leave it in the FV for a bit longer than 6 days. I have done this with other kits and there hasn't been much sediment How does a hand pull work with co2? Not seen that kind of setup before.

    Yeasty beer

Yesh, the kit was about 3 years out of date, maybe I am expecting too much. Probably being impatient too, I treated myself to a cornie so am eager to give it a try. Although when I drank what was in the trial jar it tasted ok, maybe its because more sediment has settled to the bottom of the keg...

    Yeasty beer

I have returned to brewing after a few years gap, I found an old Geordie bitter whilst moving house so thought I would give it a go. It was past its best before so I ditched the kit yeast and used gervin ale yeast. All fermented ok, although took a while most likely due to the temp of around...

    CO2 regulator help

Thanks for the responses, I think I understand how to use the regulator now. Probably wasted a lot of CO2 in the process but I'm learning

    CO2 regulator help

I have just moved over to my first corny keg and am unsure on the best way to use the regulator. I bought a kit from brew keg tap that included an ODL regulator. My first mistake, I assumed the screw being tightened up would mean no flow. Connected the gas and it went straight up to 5 bar in...

    Golden Stag - Too bitter

The water here in Essex is pretty nasty. Heavily chlorinated so I do pop a campden tablet in. I believe it is fairly hard water too, but don't try and treat that. Never tried using bottled water, the though of lugging back 20 odd litres of water from Tesco doesn't appeal to me, and kind of...

    Golden Stag - Too bitter

No, didn't brew short. As you suggest I will try and forget it for a few months. Just put a Old Speckled Hen extract clone on. Hopefully that will be a winner  My second attempt at extract, the first wasn't particularly successful, too bitter come to think of it. I sense a theme.

    Golden Stag - Too bitter

I have had my Festival Golden Stag bottled for about 6 weeks, tried one yesterday and it was still way too bitter for my liking. So much so I couldn't finish it :| I followed the instructions to the letter, so not sure if it has turned out wrong or just not to my taste. Any one else found this?

    Tesco sell off

They haven't done homebrew in that Tesco for that long, maybe even under a year. I don't think it sold, so not surprised they are getting rid of it.

    Tesco sell off

Forgot to add they also had carbonation drops for about 73p and replacement caps for Coopers PET bottles for about 50p and loads of wine kits, but wine doesn't float my boat so didn't pay much attention to that.

    Tesco sell off

Popped into my local Tesco home plus (Chelmsford) yesterday and they seem to be discontinuing their homebrew range and selling it off cheap. All the Coopers kits have gone, but I got a John Bull IPA for £3 and a Geordie Yorkshire bitter for £2.75! I am normally a 2 can kit kind of guy but for...

    First taste of Brewferm Diablo

I will give that a go next time a set off a Brewferm. Could just about fit the FV in a plastic tub without taking up too much room. Although next on my agenda is a Festival Golden Stag. Don't have tub tall enough to be able to fill a water level up to equal to that of a 23L brew in the FV.

    First taste of Brewferm Diablo

I would have problems lowering the temp rather than raising it. It gets pretty warm in here, esp. in the summer.

    First taste of Brewferm Diablo

Without using a fridge (I have limited space in my flat) is there any other way of effectively controlling the temp?

    First taste of Brewferm Diablo

Interesting that they have changed the instructions. I don't try to control the temperature I don't have the means or inclination to do so. I occasionally wave a thermometer around it was around the 23-24 mark from what I remember. I wouldn't say mine was bitter, just tastes strong! maybe i'm...

    First taste of Brewferm Diablo

I did read up about candi sugar and considered using it, but it seemed like a hassle to make and not everywhere sells it. I will try it next time for sure. I see you can buy it in crystallised form, what do you do with it, dissolve it first? Also did a Tripple with golden syrup, but that is...

    First taste of Brewferm Diablo

I have patiently been waiting for my Diablo to condition, but after waiting 10 weeks I couldn't wait any longer so I have cracked one open tonight. This is my first venture with Brewferm. First impression, not too bad. But it has quite an alcoholly taste to it, although I guess it would at...

    Frustrating off flavours

No, kitchen tap. I live in a flat so there is no outside tap :)

    Frustrating off flavours

Just looked up astringent, I don't think its that as I wouldn't say it was sharp and not that sour, the taste is more of an aftertaste rather than an initial taste. And it does have quite a smell to it which matches the taste. Can water really make that much of a difference? Both used tap water...

    Frustrating off flavours

I have been experiencing much frustration with off flavours on two recent brews, infact the off flavour on both is very similar and I can't work out what it is! The first brew was a Better Brew IPA, made up as instructions. Tasted every now and again, but after 6 months I ended up pouring it...
