What are you drinking tonight 2022?

HB Festival American IPA from a brew kit. First kit I've done in ages and thought I'd do a kit first in my new home before attempting all-grain. Not bad, but a bit on the bitter side even for an IPA.

    Kegerator. Build or buy?

Good job finding a place with no deposit on a cylinder. The spray foam was to fill and insulate the space around the shanks in the fridge door. Messy, but it works.

    What did you brew today?

Moved house recently and still have yet to do an all-grain batch. I figured I'd start with a kit so bought the Festive American IPA kit that was on sale at Brew UK. This is the first beer kit I've done in over a decade and I don't remember them being this easy. Hope it turns out well, but I'm...

    Kegerator. Build or buy?

My first kegerator lasted about four years before the compressor went out. It was built from scratch and I originally used it as a Fermentation Chamber as well before I made a separate one. £65 for the fridge with delivery off of Gumtree. Two new corny kegs £85 each. Shanks, taps, tubing...

What are you drinking tonight 2022?

On my Solomon Grundy Platinum Rose wine kit tonight. Nice in the summer especially when cold and carbonated.

What are you drinking tonight 2022?

Just for a comparison. I ran out of my kegged Idaho 7 India Pale Lager and now only have bottles. The kegged version was crystal clear, but the bottles are cloudy. Goes to show that lagering makes beer clear. Unlaggered below, and laggered after that.

    Jesus lucky escape 💥

Well yeah, it's pretty well-known he was skint. Couldn't blame him.

    What did you brew today?

Not so much brewed, but started fermenting a Solomon Grundy Platinum Rosé wine kit. It's nice in summer since I keg/carbonate it to get it nice and fizzy. I call it my Brosé.

What are you drinking tonight 2022?

On my Idaho 7 IPA today. Half Munich, half Pilsner malt. 5.9% ABV and lots of late hopping. Great hop. My now be my favourite. Before using this hop, I thought Idaho 7 was a rocket powered by potatoes bound for the moon. Edit: I also used Saflager S-23 Lager yeast to help get it nice...

What are you drinking tonight 2022?

The last time I got that much head it was in high school. My first guess is that there is something stuck in the keg post like a hop.

What are you drinking tonight 2022?

Drinking HB Marzen. A bit low on ABV, but nice and drinkable.

What are you drinking tonight 2022?

Strawberry Mead bottled 7 September 2021. 1.095 OG (corrected to 1 kg of mashed strawberries) and 0.993 FG. 13.5% ABV. Almost done with the batch, but will make it again probably later this year. Quite easy to produce provided you're patient.

What are you drinking tonight 2022?

HB Eisbock at 13.1%. Testing the carbonation levels a few days after re-seeding and bottling with a bottle that had a lot of sediment. I was concerned that removing the ice from the top as opposed to draining from beneath would oxygenate it and make it taste off.... it hasn't. Albeit cloudy...

What are you drinking tonight 2022?

Sorachi Ace IPA is on my bucket list of beers to brew. My wife describes Sorachi Ace as tasting "like cheap suntan lotion, but good." When I heard her say that, I immediately thought I really don't want to hear any more and would like to move past this.

    What did you brew today?

Moving further along in the Eisbock creation process. I had a Dopplebock below freezing for a few days and removed the ice today. I could have drained from beneath, but decided to risk the oxygenation and pick the ice from above. I removed 5.2 litres of ice from ~19 litres in the FV...
