What washer for use in fermenter?

So I've ordered a thermowell, which has turned up with no washers or backnut :( I can get a 1/2 brass backnut from screfix quite easily but what washers can I use that I can get easily for use in my fermenter? Looks like it's either rubber or fiber Thanks

    Yast starter not started?

Trying my first liquid yeast (wpl007) with a can of 'perfect pitch' doesn't look like it's not started after 18 hours sitting at 20deg. Bar taking a gravity reading is there awayof checking? Edit:gravity is 1.03x

    Minimum water treatment

Cheers, I'll carry on adding the additions. I'll also try one of my older beers that I didn't add anything to so I can tell the difference.. I'll have to get/workout how to weigh less than a gram...

    Minimum water treatment

That was for a 8l mash/total But have had 0.5g for a 10l mash - 12l total water. If that's in the right range I'll carry on :)

    Minimum water treatment

I've started to look at water treatment but the amounts of Gypsum and calcium brewfather is suggesting are iro <2 grams.. Is that level of adjustment really worth it?

    Smart meter [poll]

If your on a normal monthly payment not pre pay, then the credit will remain. Make sure you take a reading before it's changed - they will put a sticker on the new one with the readings. Do not provide another reading until you can see the new meter reading on your suppers site or you will end...

Bottle Topped... Has anyone tried it?

I've done 2 of there kits, there instructions were good. But for both kits the yeast didn't fully ferment down, I spotted the 1st one but didn't test the 2nd before I started another brew so ended up with a 3% just drinkable beer....
