    Ruined or Not ?

Coopers Stout Kit - got everything spotlessly clean and sterilised, had the tin of coopers stood in some boiling water to make sure it would come out of the can ok, added 2.5 litres boiling water into the FV, tipped the sugar in then started to pour the coopers mix in and a bit of the label on...

    Alexa.

Considering the fuss that was made back in the 90's regarding CCTV being installed in town centres and how it was the beginning of 'Big Brother' and the erosion of our social liberty. It is just astounding how we have since sold our soul to the devil for a few shiny pieces of technology. I...

think anyone who knowingly has any of these eavesdropping / listening devices in their home are mad. I don't have a smart phone either and double check any modern device that comes home can't listen. Seriously weird giving up on your privacy

    Plastic Bottles

I'm on the dark stout, so if there is dregs I guess they just go down the neck with the rest of the beer. It's not harmful is it?

    Plastic Bottles

Is there any issues in using plastic bottles ? I quite fancy using 1 litre lemonade bottles; would only have to fill 20 bottles which is only half the work, also could pre clean them and store them full of a weak sterilising fluid, then on bottling day they would just need rinsed out. Always...

    high finishing gravity

So would letting it sit for another week be a reasonable thing to do (3 weeks in the FV) ? I'm very new to this so sorry if some of my questions seem daft - I'm here to learn. I'm guessing the comments regarding exploding bottles is because there could still be some fermentaion to be done and...

    high finishing gravity

Despite my earlier post, it was 13 days between adding yeast and bottling. temperature was between 22 & 19.5 for the whole time. For future reference what should I have done; On noticing it was only down to 1016 should I have left it a few more days to make sure it was no longer falling...

they're all in the same cupboard, could be a chain reaction - LOL - should I call the bomb squad out and have the estate evacuated ?

    high finishing gravity

Just done a kit and bottled it today - forgot about taking a reading until after it was bottled, reading was 1016, now I read the instructions and it says it will not be ready for bottling until it reaches 1014 I think all fermenting activity stopped on day 6, so it has had 5 days of standing...

    Siphons

I seen a siphon a little while back that had a device on the end that allowed the beer to flow when you pressed it onto the bottom of the bottle and then stopped the flow as you moved it into the next bottle What are they called so I can do a search for them - any recommendations ?

    Are you religious?

An empty museum would be good - was in a museum a month or so back at the same time two or three school parties were in, jeez it was loud, it was that bad it set my tinnitus off. plenty churches about though, and they really are wonderful peaceful places, they def need avoided on sunday...

    Are you religious?

100% atheist, here, think it is all complete nonsense - however I just love churches, just love going into them when out cycling, they're at their best when they are devoid of people, wonderful quiet peaceful places - so may be there is something in it ??

    Labelling bottles...

Brilliant idea, thankyou, starch is a very strong glue. Tried one tonight and it seems to have stuck well. Wonder if a demister filled with milk would make it easier if you had a batch to do.

    How soon to add yeast

Its been between 21 and 22 (22.3°C max peak) since it started fermenting. I had not considered it generating its own heat (I am new to this) My last brew (my very first ever) was between 17 and 20 throughout and it turned out just wonderful. The instructions say keep between 19 & 21 -...

    How soon to add yeast

Just to update - it was only down to 23.2 by the time I was going out so I chucked the yeast in and give it a good stir. Temperature immediately dropped to 20.4 (with just cooling the bottom third of the FV in the horse bucket I think all the cooled brew had just pooled at the bottom...
