    Extract vs AG (Savings)

Most everyone here I'd venture to say started out brewing extract. At some point we made the transition to all grain and realized it isn't that difficult. It's certainly more time but well worth the effort.

    Norfolk Nog

Everything I make gets two weeks minimum in the fermenter. They're usually done by then. No need to get in a hurry about getting it finished. It does not have to be bottled immediately when it's done. Patience is your friend. There's the 2-2-2 rule some follow. Two weeks in the fermenter, two...

How Do Commercial Breweries Bottle Condition?

Like Scottyburto says, get a stickier yeast. S-04 sticks pretty well to the bottom of the bottle. Coopers yeast sticks better than S-04. There are some other British yeasts out there stickier still. Leaving you beer in the fridge for 4-5 days before pouring helps it compact and stick even more...

Can I part bottle a brew?

Even another week won't hurt it especially if it's fairly cool. Just wait for your stuff.

Good Ridance to 45 welcome to Biden

I'll say again: "Many Americans have gotten a serious sense of entitlement and feel everything should be free. The idea of having to actually work for something, improving yourself, and saving so you can provide for yourself in emergencies is no longer part of the American psyche. I want it...

Good Ridance to 45 welcome to Biden

If you read the mainstream U.S. press you'll think there are people dying in the streets by the thousands because they can't get medical treatment. Right now I'm unemployed. I've been to the doctor twice since I've been out of work. I have health insurance through the insurance exchanges. Cost...

Good Ridance to 45 welcome to Biden

If our (the US) government was about an eighth of the size it is we would not be so divided. Government now controls so much people fight, lie, cheat, steal to make sure THEIR side stays in power so they can keep getting their goodies, and it's all done in the name of "the public good". Most of...

Good Ridance to 45 welcome to Biden

Let's just see where the U.S. is in a year....... Take note today of... The price of oil The price of gold Mortgage interest rates DOW Jones industrial average Unemployment numbers ..... and let's see where the U.S. is in a year. Anything good will be Biden's doing. Anything bad will be...

Daft question: difference between types of LME?

You can steep some dark grains in your brewing water to add color and flavor. You can do a partial mash with some pale malt and some darker grains for color and flavor. This would be my choice.

    Covid-19 the second wave.

I've had a weird rash on my toes since before Christmas. Doc gave me an anti-fungal cream which didn't do anything. Tried another with similar results. Went to a dermatologist yesterday and he said it's "Covid toes". I had a positive antibody test in July and nothing since. He said its not...

    Going back to kits...

If I could get the same deals on kits here in the states you people across the pond seem too get I'd be tempted to do more kits. Average Coopers can here is $21 USD, about 16 pounds.

    Laptop recommendations?

Don't know how things work on your side of the pond but, here in the states I've gotten some smokin' deals on refurbished laptops. Yes, they are a few years old but look new and easily meet my horsepower requirements. I have an HP zBook 15 G2, 16GB ram, 1TB SSD, i7-4810, Nvidia graphics card...

    My first brew

When I first started I got real enthusiastic. I was in the kitchen cooking up a batch. At one point I turned and looked in the dining area. I had SEVEN cases of homebrew already stacked up in the corner. Had to cool my jets for a while.

    Just bottled..

Anything with honey needs six months to clean up. Be patient. Give it a try in June and you'll be surprised. Honey and apple juice is known in the mead world as cyser. Congratulations.

    Sterilisation of Bottles

I rinse mine after decanting and spray in about 1/2 teaspoon of diluted iodophor. I leave this on the counter and shake it whenever I think to. After a couple days I dump it out and recap. I save my old pry off caps and place them on the empty crimp top bottles before putting them away. Most of...

    Moving up a level

You can make small, four liter batches of all - grain beer just to try out the process. Look for a book entitled "Beer Craft". Everything you need to know. No shame in doing kits if you're happy with what you make. They sure make a short brew day. Making ten liters of all-grain is at least...

    Best ever witty response

Marine Corp colonel was overseeing a youth shooting event at a summer camp the Marines run for kids. Female reporter showed up and started asking questions about the event. She eventually snaps at the colonel, "Aren't you really just equipping these young people to be killers?" to which the...
