    Conditioning grain

I've done it with good results. Does help with lautering and I got cleaner wort. Now I do all BIAB so it doesn't matter.

    Desktop, Phone or Tablet. [POLL]

Now that I'm out of sales and not sitting in front of the computer I find myself on my tablet much more. It's a Samsung S2 8.0. Bought it new in 2017. Does most everything I need. I'm using it to post this right now.

Quickie: do I really need two packets of WLP001?

Nothing wrong with adding some cooled boiled water to your fermenter to increase the volume and dilute the gravity. Boil it first to drive out any oxygen (except for that molecularly bound to the hydrogen 😉).

Turning ferrous metal to non ferrous

Any metal containing iron is considered ferrous. Stainless steel is ferrous. Copper, zinc, aluminum, magnesium, etc are non-ferrous.

    First BIAB

I'm a "Trub dumper" too. It all goes in the fermenter. Never a problem.

Ritchies Simply Stout stuck fermentation and yeast type?

MrRook is right. You may have hit bottom. It might drop a couple more points but 1.010 probably isnt going to happen.

    Greed and Capitalism

People that don't like capitalism are lazy. It takes some determination and effort to make it work for you. If it wasn't for capitalism there wouldn't be nearly as much money for government to steal from the people and business. Well, not businesses. Taxes become part of the product cost and...

Black Rock - Nut Brown Ale

I just over carbed a mild I made adding too much sugar to the bottle. My plan is to vent them down before they go in the fridge. It's in PET bottles so it's easy. I've done the same with crimp on crown caps lifting just enough to let the pressure out then recrimping.

    Losing hop flavour after time.

You could try adding some potassium metabisulphite before bottling. I've read a campden tablet in 19 liters will help preserve the hop flavor. It acts as an anti-oxidant. Dissolve the tablet in some water then add before bottling or putting in your pressure barrel. If bottling you can use a...

    First Ever Brew Started!

Every stout I've ever done continued to get better up to about six months. I'm down to the last few bottles of a stout I made last year. Wish I'd gone through it slower. It's gotten REALLY good.

    New Job

After 23 years of driving around doing sales, I went back to being a machinist at the same company I left to take the sales job. I was out of work two months. Parts can weigh a couple tons. Most everything is lifted with an overhead crane. Big bolts and nuts to hold things down, big wrenches...

Do u clean your wort chiller

Rinse well with hot water. Nothing grows on copper so it doesn't have to be perfectly clean.

Newbie to brewing, solo bottling woes

I have a racking came I made from a piece of 3/8 inch copper tubing probably 20+ years ago. Works without fail. It with a piece of tubing, bottle filler, and clamp are perfect. I use the clamp in case the valve in the bottle filler gets stuck open. Fits my 7 gallon fermenter and works well in a...

    High fermentation temp

You're probably fine. Like others said, it was done last week. First few days are when you get off flavors running too hot. Your situation isn't optimal but it'll be okay.

How Long Do Plastic Pet Bottles Last?

This is actually true. I found out looking at glass in windows in 19th and early 20th century houses. The glass looked like it had melted somewhat and had "sagged" at the bottom. The glass has actually sagged from gravity pulling on it. I was told that a glass bottle left standing, empty and...

    Us-05 pitch rate

.... then save some of the slurry from the bottom of the fermenter for your next batch. Use a sanitized jar and lid. If you reseal the yeast envelope well and keep it in the freezer it should last a long time. Saved slurry from the fermenter will have to be used in a month.

1 can beer kits - can I add 1Kg granulated sugar instead of brewing sugar

As for adding granulated sugar to a kit, I'd try it without telling them and see what they say. If they're drinking for effect, and aren't serious beer people, they may not notice. If they don't notice, you don't tell them.

    Gushers

I've got a stout I'm working through right now. Majority of the bottles have been perfect. I've also had a couple bottles over-carbonated and one that tasted like, no kidding, dirt. I've never had a spread like this. It's usually all, or none. No way to know which were filled earlier or later...

1 can beer kits - can I add 1Kg granulated sugar instead of brewing sugar

Don't seem to be any canned kits made here in the states. Most homebrew shops have some kits they put together, hops, extract/grains, yeast. Doesn't seem to be anyone in the states making canned kits.

1 can beer kits - can I add 1Kg granulated sugar instead of brewing sugar

£20, that's like USD $28, and for a two can kit. Canned kits, Coopers for instance, here in the states start at about USD $19, about £14. We don't get the same pricing on canned kits you Brits and especially the Aussie's get.
