    Constant Ruined Brews - Oxidised?

Hello! Fermentation temp is definitely something to keep an eye on as mentioned, but it doesn't sound like it's the issue as you say it seems to smell decent after fermentation. My last batch was hitting 25+ due to the high temps and it picked up a really harsh taste. But I could smell it too...

    EightAce Brewdays - 1) Sitra

Well, with my first beer currently in stasis in the vague hope that it becomes drinkable I was a little short of supplies. Luckily, possibly because I'd figured things would go wrong, I'd bought enough extras for another brew. And I had a few hours spare! So onto brew no 2......... Few changes...

    EightAce Brewdays - 1) Sitra

Well, we have 34 bottles now sitting and waiting to carb and condition. Sadly I don't have much hope for this one. Hit planned fg of 1.009 but taste was grim, and no hop coming through. Likelihood is the high fermentation temp in the first few days killed it. But let's give it a month and we'll...

    EightAce Brewdays - 1) Sitra

Well, 8 days in and looks like we're done just about. Currently 1.010 with a target fg of 1.011. Sample was rather cloudy, bitter, and definite green apple tinge. Could be down to age or could be down to fv hitting towards 25°c at one point. It's now in a newly acquired beer fridge so hopefully...

Good News! Inkbird ITH-20R Released Now! Need Test and Review. Limited Free Quotas!

Already proved a godsend, as discovered the spare room was far warmer than I'd thought and that trying to maintain a steady temperature below 23°c in this heat is a nightmare. Thankfully one free fridge later and another inkbird purchase with the savings, my beer is now safety tucked away at a...

    Warm weather brew ideas?

I've got a feeling I'll be writing about the effects of warm weather on fermentation soon. Previously spare room has been at a constant 20°c. Brewed on Saturday and since then it's been around 22 and under for the most part, but hit 23 a few days back and now peaked at over 24 today. And that's...

    EightAce Brewdays - 1) Sitra

Annoying isn't it :laugh8:. Especially when you're limited in time! Still not sure if it's the boiler or the extension lead that had enough of the heat. But it all worked out alright in the end acheers.

    EightAce Brewdays - 1) Sitra

So after a few failures with kits I'd decided after a break to go back in with an AG recipe pack - BrewUk's Sitra. Armed with my newly acquired 2nd hand Cygnet boiler I finally had the time to do this on the hottest day of the year. Grainbill of 4.3kg MO. 0.3kg Munich and 125g Cara. Mashed...

    Youngs American IPA

Further update on my AIPA issues. Thanks for the responses, yep all bottled in Cooper's PET bottles. I dont think these are the issue (though currently amassing a load of glass anyway!). They've carbed fine and the beer neither tastes stale or off. Just incredibly harsh. Tried another today...

    Youngs American IPA

Mine appears to have gone to pot asad1. The hop flavour has gone and it's become rather harsh and, well, homebrewy. It's weird as the first one was glorious and it seems to have fell off a cliff in the 2 weeks since. IlI' be leaving them alone until Christmas now in the hope that it mellows...

    Youngs American IPA

Mines pretty much ready now. 3 weeks in the FV. 11 days bottled in warm and a week in the outbuilding and it's bloody lovely! Funnily enough though given my last post it's a little flat :laugh8:. Possibly brought it out a tad early, but will see what the others are like. Not enough to be an...

    Youngs American IPA

I can't vouch for the tablets I'm afraid. If you've got a spare fv lying around I prefer adding the sugar to some cooled boiled spring water, dissolving and then racking the beer into that. Also gives you a chance to filter the debris so two birds with one stone!

    2018 Beer World Cup - Match 1

That's a horrible one to decide. Even though I nominated it, I can't not vote for Sierra Nevada :laugh8:

Seeing that it hasn't been mentioned I'll throw Oakham Citra into the ring.
