    First brew questions

Not really, depends on your perspective; it’s about £13-14 for a 250ml bottle but that goes a very, very long way as you dilute it. Not sure about the dishwasher; in theory it would work but I think the 70c may not do your PET bottles much good?

    First brew questions

Yes, VWP is a great sanitiser that’s used a lot in the brewing world, but it absolutely needs thoroughly rinsing or, as Clint said, your beer will smell, and likely taste, like a swimming pool!

    First brew questions

Hi Paulm, I’d be very surprised if it was finished fermenting by day 4, I’ve never known any kit ferment that fast! Patience is definitely a virtue and it’s definitely better to leave it a few days longer than necessary than it is to bottle it a few days too early! Re sanitising the bottles...

    Flu vaccine

I don’t qualify for one but I get it every year, and have done since my mid-twenties. I used to be able to claim it back from my employer but since I moved companies, my new one doesn’t do it so I’ve carried on paying for it myself. My view is, unless there’s a medical reason to not have it...

    Show us your dog

This is Chester the Cockapoo on one of his walks earlier and back at home in front of the fire! We’ve had a few dogs over the years and he is, without a doubt, the daftest but best dog we’ve ever had. 🐾

How many litres of home brew 2020.

23 litres of Wreck the Halls. 22,014L Total.

    Temperature control once conditioned

I think the technical answer would be “Yes”, which is why so much money is spent by beer / wine producers on storing their produce. That said, for 6 months? As long as it’s dark I can’t see that it would make any discernible difference! Hotter would be worse than colder though, so could depend...

What are you drinking tonight 2020.

Pistonhead “Full Amber”. Not a fan TBH. 🙁

    New Water or Not?

I used to draw the water the night before to allow the chlorine to dissipate. Then, when I moved to extract and had to boil water, I figured that would remove the chlorine etc. so I stopped bothering to do that. I played around with bottled water on a few brews but didn't notice any difference...

    HoppingMad Brewdays

Happy to report that in the spare bedroom, which is running an ambient temp of around 16/17c, it's now bubbling away nicely with circa 1/2" krausen. On a side note, does anyone use a Mangrove Jacks Hop Spider? I bought one, as I figured it would make cleaning the GF much easier, especially...

    New to Grainfather G30

Hi @peebee , apologies, I hadn't realised people had said they were doing it in a Grainfather G30 so I wasn't trying to imply people were misleading. I thought the earlier comments had mentioned larger brewing operations and from my, as I admit limited knowledge, it looked like the water...

    HoppingMad Brewdays

So, I completed my first ever AG brew yesterday in my new GF G30. Have to say that whilst it was a bit of a learning curve, it was relatively straight forward and came off pretty much as planned, barring my gravity readings (more on that later) and the chilling and transfer into the FV which...

    New to Grainfather G30

With my limited knowledge of AG brewing, I don’t think I’d be able to do full volume mashes in the GF, as the water volume required would be too great, or am I wrong on that?

What are you drinking tonight 2020.

Nearly finished my first ever AG brew, so thought I’d have a beer to celebrate.

    Grainfather vs Still Spirits T500

For context, the reason I was asking is I ordered a GF Heater but a "Still Spirits Turbo T500" heater was delivered. I was trying to determine if there was any significant difference between the two boliers, in terms of performance; I couldn't find any (they're both 2kw, so I would assume...

    New to Grainfather G30

I’ll definitely try some this Christmas but I used to make my Christmas beer in January, to give it a good time to condition, so I thought I’d do my Christmas brew as my first GF brew, to get it tucked away. And thanks for the additional info and I’ve already gone OTT and invested in a separate...

What are you drinking tonight 2020.

I’m having my final beer of the evening; a trusty Leffe Brun. 🍻

What are you drinking tonight 2020.

I used to love Curious IPA but they’ve slowly dropped the % (used to be 6.5% I think). Still a good beer, but it’s just not quite the same / tasty as it used to be.

    New to Grainfather G30

GF calculator is definitely the way I’ll go then. Just running through an initial boil, at full capacity, to make sure no residual crap is on anything post manufacturing/ delivery. Very much liking the fact I can sit in the front room and watch the temp on the app, rather than having to go and...

    Grainfather vs Still Spirits T500

I know there are optional extras available for the T500, but this is for the boiler only; or is the reason it’s so much more expensive the fact that it has the capability by adding the optional extras? Seems a tad excessive, if so, IMO? So, for the boiler, there’s no technical difference for...
